Projects I Just Bought a Hot Rod Model A Roadster That Was Built In 1959...

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by cactus1, Jun 7, 2017.

  1. There will be a bunch of different answers, however, back in the day, a lot of guys only had one car pulling double duty as weekday driver and weekend warrior. They'd drive up, unbolt the fenders and windshield, race, and bolt the fenders back on to drive home. Nobody was pulling the splash aprons because they weren't jacking the body up off the chassis just for the day.

  2. I certainly cannot speak for the others but Lanny left these on quite intentionally. This roadster has a full tube chassis so it was not done out of laziness, ha! Also notice the stylish cuts he made to frame the exhaust as it passes under the car.

I've been thinking about the BB again a lot lately - this whole thing is just too dang cool to have it slip down the pages. I just re-read the whole thread again (6 or 7th time) and in a way this amazing journey that Mike has shared reminds me of a Henry Gregor Felson book and I can't wait for the next chapter.

@Countn'Carbs - really enjoyed your compilation of Mike's BB - past original photos to the present! Heading out to Mesa, Arizona for my and my brother's new home this May 5th, hoping to run into Mike and his BB next year at the Hill Climb!! Possibly bringing my '31 to this event as well.

  9. Wow Dave! (@Countn'Carbs) Thanks so much for that great recap! It's been a great journey for sure! I'm anxious to get her out of the shop once our muddy dirt road dries up, haha!

@31chevymike I hope to see you at the Hillclimb!

@cactus1 it was purely selfish on my part and as I kept re-reading this thread, I kept stealing way cool pictures of your journey and thought others might like to see them again too. What's really neat is that is only a small fraction of the coolness that you posted Mike. It would be neat to do a collage of all this and have one done for Lanny too.

@31chevymike - x2 on hoping to see you at the Hillclimb - an Epic event for sure!!

  15. Thanks guys!

Oh man that’s killer! My favorite color combination too!

  16. Speaking of, Lanny has been cleaning out his storage unit and found the original paint from 1960 or so! How cool is that?! 135E7B26-6CB6-4DFB-879E-629F462A5ABF.jpeg B7B4146E-0E16-4EB8-B242-B1A0D33C17EE.jpeg 43741702-4955-496F-B9DD-0E8C54B4BDD3.jpeg

I will have to ask some of the "old timers" if they remember that paint shop in Salina. That can of paint is like finding part of the title.

Right on Mike! The long history keeps popping up... Oh and I continue to enjoy your BB on this month's Hot Rod Hill Climb calendar...

  24. We had such a wet spring/summer that I didn’t get a lot of seat time in the BB this season. We did manage to make it to the H.A.M.B. Drags though. Here are a couple shots to prove it!

We worked on our chicken house all summer.

  27. The "coop" looks good but not as nice as the roadster! Begs the question how many chickens do you have?:rolleyes:

  28. Hey Mike. I was just wondering about your coupe the other day! I figured the relocation slowed progress a bit?

Thanks Walt. Zero chickens! We are actually going to convert it to a greenhouse. I salvaged three 3’x3’ metal windows that will replace the one currently in it. That is the southern exposure. We have a neighbor down the road that gives us all the eggs we'd ever want! :)

If you make it a green house where do the model 40 scraps go?
