wish to have air conditioning in my ‘47 Ford PU street rod but no room for a belt driven compressor. Sean Hyland offers an electric compressor but I haven’t found any reviews. Any one have experience with a Sean Hyland electric ac compressor
    Thanks

4008 BTU/Hr is a third of a ton. Probably plenty for a small cars cabin. Power requirements are gig to be substantial to run that thing.

Requires nearly 32 amps to run probably double that on startup.
At night with lights on and AC running you would have quite a draw on your charging system!

  6. Right, The compressor, condenser fan and the cabin fan plus the lights, it does start to add up.

What you gain in space by having an electric compressor you;ll probably lose because of the huge alternator you'll need. Do you have any underhood photos you can post? Surely there's somewhere under there to tuck a compressor. Some of those small rigs like a Suzuki Samurai of Geo Metro have pretty tiny compressors in them.

100 plus amp alternators are easy to come by. Most newer cars have them.

He did say street rod, so this is a possibility.

  11. Aren't some roof mounted camper a\c units 12v? Maybe the compressor from of those could be repurposed. If so one should be easy to obtain.

  12. The 'Walmart People' solution.... LOL

They are right about one thing; you will need a BIG alternator (I wouldn't get anything smaller than a 100 amp unit) and while those aren't much larger than a 'conventional' alternator, you will have to do some serious upgrading of your wiring harness.

All the camper/MH units I've seen are 120 volt using 'shore power'...
