We were on a little family vacation this weekend and came across the Wig Wam Motel. I took a few pics. Cool place. We plan a trip back to spend a night.

We stayed in the one at Holbrook, Az in early September and then the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, Nm the next night. Lots of history and both were clean and comfy.

There was a Wig Wam here in Metairie well into the late sixties. it was located
on the Airline Hwy. (hy. 61) a few blocks from my family home. The thing I could not
fathom was why my wild ass neighbors car would often be seen there after he left
the local watering hole in the evenings. Then later would be parked in his own driveway?
Of course I was of bicycle age. A few years later I came to understand!

We've stayed at both Holbrook and SB a couple times while traveling Rt 66 in the last several years.

Are you sure you weren't in the Twilight Zone, and went back in time, when taking those pics? Next stop Willoughby? They look to be from the 50s?

We stayed at the Wig Wam in Holbrook several years ago when we were on our Route 66 vacation. Grate place, one of the high points of the whole trip for us. Now that I am retired and have a lot more time to take in more of the old attractions I am trying to talk my wife into another trip westward before we get too damn old to enjoy it!

Me and my wife were just up there for run to the pines and we went up there early her aunt lives up in show low. so we had went up there for about a week and was tooling around down the street there from The wigwam there is an old building that used to be the Safeway and has a bunch of old hot rods in it bunch of classic cars and muscle cars. we talked to the old guy for about an hour he's pretty cool looking to sell everything to, even the building. I even had a car show at the wigwam.

We stayed at the Holbrook Wigwam in September. A dream I'd had since we didn't stay there on a trip west in'96. The San Bernardino Wigwam is more newly updated, but the Holbrook is the real deal. I had a great visit.

    Hey!

By the way, it's San Berdoo. You know I'll help you with your spelling.

Hi. One similar in Wharton Texas, just a few miles south west of Houston. From memory I thin it is called the Tee Pee Motel. Our club in Victoria stayed there on a tour a few years ago. It is on business US 59 near the north east edge of town. Jimmie

We were there about 2PM seemed fine and I bought a neat key tag to use as a key fob on my '31. Didn't stay as we needed to get closer to Santa Monica for the last dash

There used to be a 50' tall concrete teepee east of Lawrence, KS., on US 24 highway and it might still be there. There were several smaller teepees and it was arranged as a small village with a gas station and a restaurant. There were 10, or so, smaller teepees in the setting but they are gone.

The neat thing was two high water marks on the concrete from floods from the Kansas (Kaw) river.

It's still there, as of a couple weeks ago anyway.
