Yeah, what I saw and heard was that it had to be the exact production line part or it wasn't even considered by Steve. Not the service (parts Dept.) part, not the same part from a year before or after, the RIGHT part. Such a loss...
... and Thank You for your efforts on these cars and tracking the history.

I will say you are welcome on behalf of everybody that had a part to play in the Cobra recommissions. It was a team effort. Steven called the shots and has lots of friends around the world.

I have been hunting available original Cobra and 427 Cobra parts since the early 1980s. Most of the time it is very boring. Most people looking are looking for something cheap or just close.

Steven Juliano made original parts hunting fun. It didn’t matter who found something very rare, Steven himself or one of the several others, but a genuine new old stock ‘assembly line’ anything specific to one of his cars got him excited in the triumph.

Quite a few of us miss Steven deeply. Steven loved the cars to be sure but he also really got into the stories behind the cars, getting to know former owners and their families, and the sort of fellowship among everybody chasing parts and working on his cars shared.

WE HAD TO CHANGE THE WORDS A BIT! LOL

Hey Little Cobra don't you know you're
    gonna shut'em down....

I took my Cobra down to the strip,
A Dragonsnake Cobra gonna give it a rip!
Everyone was there just waiting to see,
Could a Cobra go straight with any efficiency.

Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike,
Spring little Cobra on the last yellow light.
Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike,
Spring little Cobra with all of your might.
Hey Little Cobra don't you know you're
    gonna shut'em down....

As the green lights flash the slicks start to tear,
grabbing second gear with the wheels in the air!
8 grand on the tach 300 feet out,
This Cobra is a drag car was there ever a doubt?

Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike,
Spring little Cobra on the last yellow light.
Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike,
Spring little Cobra with all of your might.
Hey Little Cobra don't you know you're
    gonna shut'em down....

Half track went in the blink of an eye,
And when high gear came we were licensed to fly!
A stingray was beside me when we started the race.
But couldn't hang with the Cobra and it's 10 second pace!

Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike,
Spring little Cobra on the last yellow light.
Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike,
Spring little Cobra with all of your might.
Hey Little Cobra don't you know you're
    gonna shut'em down....

I picked up this switch panel today. I have been looking for one for a while that had a simple old school look to it. No LED light etc. I think this one fills the bill nicely.

OMG! ...If there is anyone in the area please come by and put me out of my misery! Good Lord I hate bodywork and these doors and trunk lid are about put me in orbit. I pulled out the HK-VP9 last night prepared to get all Elvis on the car. I know it would have made me feel better but in then that would just be another dadgum hole to fill! LMAO!

Randall it’s a fiberglass car and if you are still filling pinholes in it you need to spray poly the thing it will be your best friend the guys at work use it all the time on glass parts they say it’s a fiberglass mans best friend

I wish I had pin hole issues lol. We are down to making the doors and trunk lid line up as close to perfect as possible. As you might have seen, the trunk had to be coaxed in place with a ratchet strap and steel reinforcements fibeglassed in place to hold the corrected shape! We are getting there...

While the trunk and doors were setting up we move our attention to fuel filler neck and the Triumph style flip top fuel cap. You might remember I broke the original but a HAMBer instructed me where to find a new one. The only issue with this cool little cap is that is all there is...no big washer and nut for the back side or tapped fuel neck to screw it on to etc. So it has been a bit of a delima exactly how to, one mount the cap and two connect a filler neck to it.

    Resized_20190323_184849.jpeg
The real issue is its threaded neck size (probably attributed to British Standard or something like that). Nothing here in the States seams to fit it. Our standard pipe and or rubber hose sizes were either too small by a smidge to fig snuggly inside or too large by the same amount. Not to mention because of a cross bar up in there, the neck has to take a pretty quick turn. After quite a bit of experimenting we finally decided a steel neck would allow us to accomplish both delivering the fuel and mounting the cap.

We chose tubing that went inside the cap neck. We took a hand held tail pipe expander and carefully expanded the end in the cap neck until it was a very tight fit. Then we made angle cuts to the pipe to not only avoid the cross bar but to come out and then down straight at the fuel cell neck.

Just to make sure the cap stays in place you probably noticed above we dropped a couple of pop rivets in there. All we have to do now is fabricate a mount to attach the neck to the chassis cross bar (we narrowly avoided) which will hold the cap in place. Between the cell neck and upper drop down piece we have a piece of Gates 2" ID fuel hose with the handy dandy one way directional flap in it.

If that flip cap is like other Brit caps, check to see if it is going to hit the painted body (button or lid) and plan on a non-scratch fix BEFORE paint. Just making sure that beautiful Blue paint isn't blemished!
I'd also figure out how to seal that joint, either weld or a gas proof sealer so fumes aren't let into the trunk.

Are the Cobras really that small? You should have plenty of room to make course corrections on the strip.

This is the second round today of build/fill back there. After round one we removed all the masking and carefully sanded the back to the line. Put the trunk back on and marked our gap lines. We cleaned them all up, re-masked the entire trunk area again and did our finish coat of fiber reinforced filler. I am very happy with the lines.

Yeah, most pics don't have much to go by as an indicator. Everyone wants "just the car" in the shot. There are a bunch of shots of this car in the pits earlier in the thread, but unless you concentrate on the 55 gallon barrel next to it, or the size of the 15 inch wheel or the standard size license plate, it doesn't really register. That's partly due to the design being so good and burned into the mind over the years.
Here's one next to a 57 Chevy, note the top of the windshield is even with the side mirror/door top.

There is Cobra under there somewhere. Painting the chassis and engine compartment. Getting ready to put to it all back together again. Very close to dropping the engine and trans back in...
