Major body work complete. Just doing some work now on the lower rear tail panel water drain system and then I will do some final hammer/dolly and shrinking work to get ready for body work...

  3. Great coverage and work! Keep those trunk bumpers. The new ones I have found are much smaller.

Thanks! Your roadster is one of my favorites! The bumpers are older Brookville I believe....

I use my TIG on most of my welding , in the body shop I used a MIG and the new Compression Spot Welders. But I can still make a spotweld looking weld with OX/ACTE and brass it's a trick I learned a long time ago.

Yeah- I'm now pretty much exclusively using my TIG unless I need to do some fast welding that doesn't need to get body worked. Oxy weld still to get tight shrinks in or something delicate.

What a nice build, I have no idea why it took so long to find it. Bob

Played with the seat this week. I made a bottom for it with cutouts for the webbing, reworked the bottom metal bracing, and then welded in some 1/2-20 bungs to bolt it in to the cross braces. For now it's roughed in for the mockup. I'll foam it later when I get upholstery done.

Improved the body bracing a bit today with some right and left hand 1/2-20 clevis and threaded bungs so I can adjust the door gaps and body easier after paint.

Also, ordered some seat webbing for the seat suspension, and the seat foam should be ready on Monday from the water jet cutter

The 1/4 panel patches were an ebay purchase that I re shaped in the shrinker. Driver side lower is from a brookville 2nd, and the door lower patches I made out of a compound curve roof panel from a 50's car that had a good crown. The eBay door lower skins are really poor . Not good fit, and no compound curve.

Thanks! It's a 4 bar mechanism so you have to move both at once to get the body to move much. I'm sure there is an even slicker way to do it, but this will work for now!

Spent a lot of time this weekend tightening up the metal lumps. The panel above the decklid needed about 18 shrinks in it to get all the oil canning and lumps out! The passenger side quarter top started to come around today after several shrinks and a lot of hammer and dolly. Now, I'm no flop, but I should be able to get it to the point where it needs just a thin skim of filler to be ready for filler primer.

Hamb member @Flop is what I meant. Amazing talent- I don't have his talent, so I will do my best to get by with just a skim coat of filler

Foam came in today. I need to take a couple inches off the bottom to lower the seated height, but the overall profile turned out nice.

Webbing I got on ebay- I got a huge roll for like $40 and then the foam came from a local store. It's called "Foam and more" and they specialize in recovering furniture but have a huge foam selection. They can wire cut small sections from a template and glue them together, or in this case, I paid extra for them to set it up in a water jet and they were able to do a full width cushion with my templated profile.

Thanks- the metal is just sheet aluminum I'm using for door panel backing. It's just setting on the seat to get it out if the way.

Hey- yes, slow progress. I’ve been prepping the body for paint - basically skim coat of filler everywhere, block sand and repeat. To be honest, I was a bit ebarrassed to show you guys this part as I didn’t totally metal finish it as much as I originally envisioned, but rather got it pretty darn close and then relying on a skim coat to finish it off.

I’ll post some pics from my other phone tomorrow...
