I remember this one as well. Thanks for posting it. It seems that almost all of the episodes in the first "Dragnet" series were titled "The Big" something or other. I've seen a lot of pictures of Wally Parks, and the guy in the program doesn't look like any of them to me. Did you notice that the whole time Friday was questioning the real Hot Rodder, he was leaning on the windshield of the guys car. Show a little respect, officer. I really like Jack Webb and his "dead-pan" manner. To see it taken to it's ultimate, Goggle "The Copper Clapper Caper".
yeah, I guess I assumed it was Mr Parks. I looked again at the credits and it is not listed who played him.....
Wally Parks (On right and seated) 1955, Dragnet episode was 1954. MMmm, he seems a lot younger in photograph, don't they say TV makes you look older He conceived Op. Drag Strip (54) which morphed into Safety Safari in 1956 after the Le Mans crash resulting in 83 deaths with 180 people being injured. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/road-1955-hrm-photographer-eric-rickman-imbedded-nhra-drag-safari/
According to Greg Bell, host on Radio Classics on Sirius XM, after a certain number of episodes, I forget how many but it was during the first season on radio, all episodes were titled "The Big ______". This continued on the TV version as well. Many of the TV scripts were first used on the radio version.
Yep, I've seen enough pictures of Mr. Parks to know that. I was referring to the guy they alluded to be him in the TV show.
