I know this is not what you're wanting or asking but I would drive that truck just like it is. Probably different wheels, but that's a nice truck. I had a 53 Ford 1/2 ton, it drove great and steered very easily.

Looks good. I have a F1 and a M3, both with disc brakes and one with power steering. You will not regret the upgrades.

There must be kits available to add disc brakes to your truck
I know fellow put dodge omni rack and pinion on other brand '40s pickup, fabbed his own brackets for disc brakes.

  5. I've had a few Mercury M1s as well as F1s over the years. I agree, if you're going to drive these things with any regularity especially in today's traffic, you need disk brakes and power steering.

I'd have to think that everything thing that fits a 51 Ford F-1 will work on that truck so don't make it harder than it has to be. There are a ton of disk brake kits for them and several power steering kits.

You just have to sort though and figure out what you want to use.

With the good kits out there I am not a big fan of trying to cobble a steering unit from the junk yard onto one of these. Someone said Omni but I haven't seen a Dodge Omni on the roads here for maybe ten years that I can actually remember so that is obsolete tech. Some of this stuff guys did 20/30 years ago aren't viable today because you can't readily find the parts.
