That is VERY impressive body work fellas

 

I don't know wether this idea came to me as some sort of cosmic harmony, or a statement of the defiance of the old Ford to "wear it's enemy's skin".............
I went to the farm where the truck had lived for the last 50+ years to find the tree that had clobbered the model AA. I talked with the owner who told me the giant oak had fallen on the trucks behind the barn and pointed out the giant pile of logs they cut out and away from the trucks. I say trucks because the tree had also fallen on a 47 ford rack body and crushed it also. I told him my idea of remaking all the top wood that weather and the tree had destroyed. I found a nice straight 18" section in the pile and cut off a 6 foot length. then I cut off four sides. then I cut that in half so we could manage it.

 

here is a photo of the other squished truck.

 

when I got home I sliced the chunks into manageable pieces for my table saw and band saw.

 

This saga just took a interesting turn.

Ya gotta love it, what a just reward for the Truck.

 

Man this story just get's better and better. There could not be a more fitting place for that old tree than in the "Truck". Great idea guys...

the pile was huge......I think we could build a garage to keep the truck in,............ to protect it from trees falling on it.......

Great idea making that old oak pay it forward. Using the wood in the bed would really close the circle.

That's funny, I bought a used Portopower at an auction when I was 17. I am 69 now and it still doesn't leak.

 

agreed-even my hf works,let alone my otc and enerpacs!

 

I did spend a little time dink some dents out and trying to shrink the rear panel.......getting close.
I also cut down the smallest of the chunks of timber. I started by snapping a chalk line on the piece and cutting it with the table saw. I turned the board 90 degrees, snapped a line and ran it through the saw. I then set the fence for the size I needed and trimmed it down. then trimmed the next piece "squared". the first I cut will be for the support along the back of the cab behind the seat. I don't know who this 84 year old "slacker " is but I bet I could learn a LOT about fixing old cars from him!!

 

I have learned a lot from Charlie. he has talked me through a repair, in detail, on something that he had not seen since the 1970's. class A mechanic with a great memory for details.

 

Not finished yet, but may be some inspiration for Charlie!
