When you installed the axle, did you also do something to drop the rear?

I flattened the rear crossmember. Gave me 4 “ drop in rear.

Great looking chop. Are you going to post how you deal with the drip rail?

The drip rail will fade out like a Zephyr.

That's the way I would do it. I think they need the drip rail because it adds to the appearance of the car . I personally don't like them removed, makes me think they took the easy way out. I love your car wish it was in my garage next to my 40 Sedan Delivery.

I agree with 1- shot the drip rail has to continue to the end of the seam to complete the look. The car has to look untouched or the chop doesn't look right, the same with coupes. Just my opinion.

Really nice looking '40. The chop is perfect. So, too, is the car's color.

I'd be wanting the drip rail reinstalled just like the initial photoshop illustration. The car needs that line completed (and so does the Zephyr). It looks incomplete without it, as if the chopper took the easy way out. I've seen lots of '49- '51 Mercs and '40 coupes chopped and smoothed but they never look right to me. IMHO.

  12. It is an amazing line. I know someone with a gutterless chop and it's a pain if you get caught in the rain. No joke.
Faded Love, the chop looks righteous. One swoopy kemp.

I’ve been busy on customer projects, but I finally got it in the shop. Cutting the rubbers down to fit and getting ready to make templates.

The car is perfect! The stance, color and chop all contribute to a timeless classic.

Keeping original flathead in it. Interior is still a long way off. Haven't even thought about it.

After the seal has been cut to fit the windshield opening, what do you use to bond it so that it is relatively waterproof?

I got some black 3M weatherstripping adhesive and some 3M rubber glue. I made my cuts behind the windshield wipers, so you won’t see it, and my center piece will be cut in the middle and covered by the stainless piece.

  30. Chopping a 40 is a risky maneuver that most people fail at, but you nailed it! I didn't read the whole thread, but how long was it gone before you bought it back?
