After a major screwup on my part I had to the tear the motor back apart and redo the entire valvetrain..... I have it back together and is running well, finally!!!!

I learned that it costs a lot money to be cheap sometimes!!!

So far I racked up 700 miles and finally all the bugs are working out of it....

    Some of the recent crap.....

Shortly after reassembling it I needed to replace one of the head gaskets due to a minor leak (the fire ring of the big bore copper gasket on the passenger side was directly on a small flaw in the head surface so I used a stock felpro gasket, so if anyone knows where I can get small bore copper gaskets let me know).

I had to replace the weights in the distributor and try a bunch of springs to get a proper advance, I also had to limit the advance so it was more flathead appropriate.

The solid core plug wires interfered with my dwell meter so I made up a shielded but cloth covered set.

The vacume wiper motor broke so I tore it apart and fixed it with some canabalized parts from a chevy truck vacume wiper motor.

Radiator would slowly puke coolant so I made a puke tank out of an old coke bottle and made a fan shroud as well.

    Adjusted the voltage regulator.

And lastly adjusted the seats for a little better comfort and cut,up some rubber floor mats to fit front and back.

Hopefully I am good go for a while.... If it behaves itself and I fall in love with it I may do more bodywork and give it in shiny paint job in a few years.

Today I fabricated a nicer looking pair of headers.... I still have to paint them and install baffles but they look a lot better than the freebies I put on it to get it going.

    A mock up pic...

Too many fumes without turnouts so I made a set of turnouts for it....

I had a good day at Carlisle yesterday, I found a pretty decent set of the same weiand heads I have on my car....so I had to buy them as spares since....these don't seem to grow on trees and were priced pretty well.

I also picked up a nicer pair of doors for the car that I will patch and eventually use when the time comes for shiney paint.

The car made a 300 mile trip to the jalopy showdown and some track time with zero issues. It got over 20 mpg and lost / burned zero fluids.

Here are a few pics I took and a few other pics I found that others took. received_790843514405810.jpeg

Great to see pics of you at the ShowDown, even better to make it back on its own wheels.

I put a lot of reliable miles on the car this summer, I am glad I didn't get rid of it.

Recently my neighbor / friend (Casey Kennel) put some pinstripes on it.

Been a long time since I updated.... Drove it a good bit this year including some fairly long trips. Has been pretty reliable except I had 2 ignition coils go bad and a starter go bad.

Wow, you have come along way. By your own admission you have a ways to go. Be proud of where you got today, you drove it. Congratulations.

Both girls love painting, they got materials off him and have been practicing....both always want to go up to see his latest jobs!!!

The little one (6 years old) already claimed one of my upcoming projects. So it will likely be her car if she helps on it..... it is now in the garage ready to start hacking on it.

The older one (now 10) is insisting that I drop her off at her grade school dance in "her" hotrod. She hasn't been helping quite as much on cars as she used to, but still does from time to time. Laitly she has been playing music a lot, I enjoy playing gigs with her and watching her perform solo just as much as i do showing them how to wrench on stuff. (The 6 year old just started guitar lessons as well)
