There was an event a couple of weeks ago; Drag races in Santa Barbara. Lots of fun 1/8mi. along the beach, lots of flatheads and 4 bangers, great stuff. Anyway, Winfield has a concession selling stuff and We were buying some things. The sun was bright and I had not looked up at the guy helping me, when I did, it was Gene Winfield himself! We shook hands and I told him we had attended his birthday celebration(85th IIRC) at his shop in Mojave. His wife was also working the booth. A very nice and great guy still kicking at advanced age. I suspect some of the members here were in attendance.

I have owned both cars and my money is on the Olds. I loved that car, '59 Super 88 2dr hardtop.

  7. Belmont Sanchez's Bantam-bodied competition coupe at Bonneville, bodywork by Chuck Porter. Belmont would later "find" a '53 Studebaker on his father's car lot and turn it into a record breaker. This Bantam later went to the Koopman brothers. Photo from the Wayne Koeppe collection.
