If you want a tall stick, an early Ford Aerostar van had a Mustang style shifter with a 2’ or so tall handle.

Another vote for the Winters shifter, or any gated shifter over a ratchet shifter for daily driving a manual valve body trans.

If this is going to be a manual shift TH350, any factory shifter will suck. I'd look at a B&M ratchet or Pro-Shifter or a Hurst version of either.

  5. Can't imagine why anyone would want to ratchet a shifter up and down at every stoplight.
Go for the Winters or step up to the real deal...a Turbo Action.

  6. I've had a Gennie Shifter on the TH350 in my RPU for over 20 years without a single problem.

I am planning on using this shifter on a truck I am building. It uses a push button to move the lever. It has a nice metal gate for the detents . I plan on using a shifter rod to operate the trans instead of a cable. Came out of a old Postal jeep. IMG_3516.JPG IMG_3514.JPG

  10. Hurst Dual Gate may be an answer.[IMG]
Summit lists them but status is ''not available''. Someone out there has one I'm sure.

Thanks for all the responses. I was pretty settled on the Hammer, but after some bad things I read here and elsewhere, like overly stiff shifts, I thought better of it. I really liked the Winters shifter as soon as I saw it, so I did a little research and it seems everyone who has one likes it, so as of the moment that's what I think I'll go with. They are available with or without a cover, I think I'll go coverless because it looks like it takes up a little less room, and I like the more mechanical look of it.[IMG]

The winters plastic cover bolts on to the shifter housing with 4 allen head screws that also hold the Sidewinder name plate. Be advised, the cable housing anchors at the bottom end of those two arms at the rear of the shifter, that area needs to be at least an inch off the floor. To bolt the shifter to your floor, you will need to bolt a plate to the sides of the shifter assembly. The side to side movement as you go through the shift pattern put a lot of side load on the shifter, even if your being gentle with it, so be sure your brackets are pretty tough and attached to your floor well. My car came with a long swan-neck Lokar, and it seems to shift really nice in the garage (car isn't running yet). When I'm tired of that, I'm gonna go to the TCI Outlaw shown above. It is similar to a Hurst Quarterstick, but nicer.

Thanks for that info. I was wondering how they bolted down, couldn't find instructions or anything on net, but I think I'll manage. Fortunately, my car has perfectly flat plywood floors, so it should be straightforward.

I have the same shifter in my "collection", only the stick is chromed, and does't have a button; it also came out of a 70's postal Jeep.

What's a poser cam? I Googled it, and all I got was a bunch of porn.
