Maybe, I went to Military School with his nephew and he was local. I still have Mickey's autograph from that era framed in my garage.
Bill Strope had a shop on Signal Hill, right at the top of Hill street which was the home of the Long Beach Model T Hill Climb for many years.

 

Shell Hill I think they called it. I remember they banned Seth Hammod for using to much nitro in his T....

 

Used to look forward to reading about the Shell Hill Climb every year, what finally killed it? Bob

 

Skateboarders used the hill in the late 70's going down though. There's a documentary on youtube about it.
Now it's used by power walkers.

 

Shell Hill, that's right! My old neighbor who was the "King of the Hill" one year in the 70s stole the city sign and had it in his back yard. There were several city signs floating around. Wish I had one.
My dads car club would go to the hill climb and I can remember what a BIG deal it was...at least it seemed like a big deal to a kid.
