Got this in the mail today. It's a 1962 Chrysler six cylinder marine tach. I think it will look killer. Sort of breaks my 1950 cut off date. Shhhh don't tell anybody! image.jpg

Probably not something you need to do, but I saw a sprint car that had "THINK!!!" printed in very large letters right above the tach. I'm guessing the car owner was tired of replacing engines.

Sprint car drivers are a bit off !;) I,m not building this thing to be fast just more of the what the hell is that thing. If it will get me up to 50-60 mph I'll be happy.

Peak HP was pulled at 3600, you can occasionally buzz them up to 4000 but it's a futile excercise. With such a light vehicle it might be easy to get it wound tighter than necessary. Might even give some thought to putting on rev limiter at 3900. You are dealing with a 4 5/8 stroke and quite a heavy piston.

  7. You planning on putting a speedometer in there, or are you gonna figure that out by the rpm’s?

With that small a diameter it gets lost in everything else. I think it would be ok larger if you painted the spring clamp parts black

I will build it out of 3/4 solid stock that I have, just want to see if I like the looks before I spend time building the real thing.

   ...works for me...some inspiration...;)
@phat rat has a good suggestion with painting the spring bolts and plates to allow the Signature Bar to stand visually unobstructed...
I also have leveled the top bar close to the top of the spring perch or flush with the tops of the perch bolt heads.

So I only have to no votes, not that it matters. A buddy thinks it should be higher to protect the radiator like the old race cars. I not to keen on covering the grill.

  22. Put me on the list of those in favor of it! I agree with Stogy’s suggestion of blacking out the spring bolts, for contrast.

Stogys rendition is right on. Go for it. It's certainly a traditional thing

  26. I voted “yes”. I also understood that you were using light weight bar just to get a feel for how it would look and planned to make it beefier if you went forward. I’m not sure everyone caught that.

@Stogy took your idea to the next level!

    A no vote from here,
Doesnt go with the rear of the body and takes away the "lightness" of the front, looses the charm of seeing the front spring bracket.

I like it. What if the top bar matched the curvature of the spring?

I think in reality just about every angle you look at this front end the spring bracketry will be very visible and selectively blacked out it all still talks business.

...Those were kind of common it seems back in the day...Higher Yes but beefy and prominently proud and the back...I can't see it...
