My text seems to have disappeared from my original post. The photo was taken in England in about 1964. The tow-car does not look QUITE like an early-Sixties Ford Falcon --- or is it? Any suggestions please?

  9. I agree. I've got a soft spot for '64 Galaxie's as that is what I took my driver's test in. Wish I still had it.

At first glance it looks like the backlight and sail panel looks a little small. That's because there is a fellow to the left of the car wearing a jacket very similar to the paint of the car giving the smallish look. Those "kinda looks like" cars were mainly an Australian thing I believe.

They really aren't as big as they look; my 63.5 is a lot smaller in appearance than the Lincoln town car I used to drive, and definitely smaller than the Buick 225 I had.

64 lashes with a soggy noodle will suffice reb it was bigger than a pimple on your nose but not as bg as one on your ass:eek::eek:

  19. Foreign made Fords had or have different names than American made Fords. In Australia this is what is sold as a Falcon for example.

Actually that is the same for many car marks. for example a a VW Thing is called a Caribe in Mexico

"Lazy V8" always makes me laugh. Only the English could describe an engine that propels a 4000 pound car 0-60 in 10 seconds and to a top speed of 120MPH as "lazy", and one that propels a 2000 pound car 0-60 in 15 seconds and a top speed of 85 as "lively".

I'm thinkng that the photo was distorted a bit when it was originally resized back when as that happened a lot then. That caused the misshapened back window of the Galaxie. Neighbor gal across the street had a 64 500XL that was one of the best looking sixty anything Fords I ever layed eyes on that was that same color.

  23. The back glass looks odd because of the person in the blue jacket. His jacket is almost the same color as the car and it looks like an odd c pillar when it really is his sleeve covering the glass.

I would go with a 64 Galaxie ..here in Australia we also had a Ford compact which looked like a small Galaxie..rear was similar but it had very small rear fender wings which are missing in the photo

Aside from the Galaxie anyone notice what looks like a Topolino body on the stock car?My cousin in England ran stocks in the 70s , Usually involved a Bedford van chassis and axles with an American V8.. My cousin liked ford 390s:cool:

Buddy of mine had one when I was a teenager ( he was a crazy uncoothed sombitch ).
390 4 speed posi rear end and 4 doors.
Cruzin on the dirt roads having a beer, when he pull out on to the paved road he'd dump the clutch and pull pennies until the biased ply tires turned to grease and the car was filled with smoke. Then he'd straiten her out and head down the dirt again till ya hit about 90 miles an hour and your nuts were soaked with beer.

Never thought it was a lazy v8.
