Crazy isn't it? He was playing a left handed guitar strung as a right handed guitar.

I just noticed that even though he played a left handed guitar it was strung upside down as a right hander would be upside down played left handed.

You got me. I went to you tube to look at better videos.

Condolences to the Dale Family and Friends on Dick's passing...his legacy in music and his connection to the Hotrod/Custom/Race scene will live on.

Thanks for sharing the loss of this iconic musician with us @HEMI32

In a roundabout way I was searching for info on the Hotrod Dick is leaning on...and low and behold Hamber @TerrytheK answered that question in a thread on The Late Dick Dale...May He Rest in Peace...

A few years back, 2004?, he was performing at a local bar. The owners had brought in sand for the outside area and one of the band members commented "We'll never get all this sand out of our equipment." I hung around until 2am in the morning for him to sign the dash of my 1950 Shoebox. He wrote "Cool short" and signed it. His signature joined Don Garlit's, Big Bopper Jr's, Bowser's (from Sha Na Na), and a few more. Unfortunately the signatures have mostly faded away.

    RIP Dick Dale

When you heard his music you knew it was him. As I remember the story he hung out with the Fender people and played the first or one of the first Stratocasters. They figured if it held up to Dale it was tough enough. Played the same way the rest of his life. He will be missed but left lots of us with great memories.'
