Finally got my frame done. So I was able to paint it today.

  4. Changed the fuel pump in my o/t van, and worked on getting the building permit on my garage. I have all the material, and all I need is the final approval to go ahead. It is overdue, I'll be 76 this summer. It's time I had room to work without having to put everything away every day.
I plan to change the present front axle out of the truck and reinstall the original 55 front axle on the front, then change out the 12 bolt rear end for a narrowed 9 inch. I like the 12 inch, but want to put a Gleason/Torsen differential in the rear end, and it is more cost effective to do that to the 9 inch and sell the 12 bolt.

I do too but I'm afraid to show a picture of it....It involved a paint can , a caliper , some small pieces of 3/8" aluminum flat bar and duct tape:rolleyes:

Worked on the shop addition. Hopefully by this time next week I will have the sheet metal roof on and have another 256 (16 × 16) 20190312_180639.jpg 20190312_180700.jpg sq ft of shop space dried in to fill up with more stuff.

I used some clapped out o/t damper hub, had to turn it down in the lathe.

Well I have gotten the rad support on the 39 on the run
Finished welding IMG_2424.JPG it after the initial fit and it moved ,,
So some tweaking its back in
Good thing I didn’t drill the holes to mount the rad
So tomorrow out it comes ( 4th time) and get that drilled out , ad welded captured nuts
    And reinstalled the whole mess
    Keep reminding myself
    Patience ,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yesterday and today I worked in the front yard cutting out grape vines and a huge amount of creeping rose bushes that had attached to the phone & cable lines. It had nothing to do with automobiles, but all to do with a nice warn day. Bob

Todays goal, sell or throw away enough crap to gain 6 square feet of open floor space.

  12. Visiting an old friend. He's building a 48 Ford convertible and, a 55 Ford. Super great guy. 20190314_144322.jpeg 20190314_141543.jpeg 20190314_144303.jpeg 20190314_141533.jpeg

    Hey Ron,
That is a cool shot of the friend's garage and your sedan delivery in the parking area, way back...in the background. Your friend has a couple of nice projects going for him. That 55 Ford Sedan reminds me of that drawing I did back in February.

We had to say no thank you to our dad's friend for buying his Bonneville run, Flathead powered, 55-56 Ford with Moon Discs, and a tall lever for the 3 speed LaSalle. But, we always wished we had enough money to have a flock of cars, including that Ford Sedan. It was very cool looking.

It looks like nice weather back East. We are getting the whole range of mid 70s out West, too.

Went to the local old junkyard and grabbed a pair of armrests off a 50s Willys panel truck to put on my 37 Chevy p/u,found them last weekend but did not think I had enough tools to get them off so I brought the cordless die grinder to cut the screws so they actually came out even though the doors have probably been open 40 years. The screws would have fought me if I tried it last weekend.

I took the missus out for breakfast in the yellow '55 Chevy and rode around out in the county. As I got close to home I stopped at a quarter car wash and cleaned it up. Mileage --101 for the day.

Fired the old Ford up and went for a drive. First time since late November. Glad winter is on it’s way out.

Friday I got the notification letter informing me that the entry application for the 63rd Annual GSTA Show was accepted. It's kind of a big deal to me for a number of reasons. First, I have been attending the show as a spectator since the mid '70's and it helped fuel my passion for Traditional Rods and Customs. Secondly, it will be my first indoor (judged) show. I figured why not, the truck will be minty fresh and it does seem to fit the vibe of the show.

There's a lot to do between now and April 13th. I need to get the truck all fluffed and buffed, line up an enclosed trailer because the weather could easily be crap in the middle of April, and get a display figured out. I'm planning to use a 10' x 20' piece of Forest green indoor/outdoor carpeting and a local pinstriper is hand lettering a showboard for me. Folks here suggested keeping it simple so the display doesn't distract from the truck, that's the direction I'm leaning.

So today has been a productive day. I changed oil, checked all the fluids and every inch of the undercarriage has been cleaned and detailed. I discovered a couple of loose bolts so I grabbed some tools and checked every nut and bolt on the chassis. 54257014_2062864863750984_5786972233788293120_n.jpg Tomorrow I’ll get it off the jack stands and continue detailing everything else.

Replaced the points distributor with a DS11 and replaced the needle and seat in the Holley. Removed the cheesy gauges from the dash and cussed the PO for drilling holes in the dash. Small steps.

  23. Spent another 3-4 hours re-making a driver's side floorboard panel that I had made two or three times before. I just don't like the quality of work I've been turning in, and if I didn't work so damned cheap, I'd fire myself. I'm not complaining, more the opposite. It is warm (50s) this weekend, so hotrod building season has arrived and I'm happy working in the garage with the doors open.

Put the grandsons to work in the garage clearing out most of the rest of my wood working tools and the stash of exotic woods I've collected over the years. Sending it all to my just retired youngest son. Now I've got a lot more square footage in the shop so I can finally put my rolling A frame inside and use it to hang engines instead of moving cars outside and hanging them with the truck mounted crane. A very good day:)

Another hour of yard work, then another hour moving stuff in the basement. Walking past stuff and not around it is something I could get used to. Bob

PEF west cleanout - Med res.jpg
Grabbed a pick and shovel and hunted for septic tank cleanouts. A previous owner back filled over the tank. Alternately muttereing "74 is too old for this" and giving appreciation for the heart surgeon that pulled me out of congestive heart failure. Tomorrow, I'll build a small wall to keep the dirt from collapsing back on this cleanout.
