Since picking up my cabriolet a couple of months back I have been looking around for other examples. I was surprised to see that there is not a thread for the cabriolets. This is a unique body style and I see that a lot of people don't care for them as a hot rod. Most of them that I see online are more "street rod" or "resto-mod". If done right - they can be a cool hot rod. Anyways - here is one of mine. It is a great driver and is tastefully put together.
Good looking car-I like the color. Can you give us some of the specs? Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Other than really having a very good looking car, whats not to like. What do you need or want to know? The 2 I know of have only 1 cabro related issue and that is the fitment of the roll up windows. Bill
Just would like to see some more examples of cabriolet hot rods. My window fit isn't great - but it is an '87 year old car. I can fit the top of the windows behind the tab on the top edge and it works out ok. My seat is mounted way back and the top won't go down due to hitting the seat back. I'm 5'11" and the pedals are just a bit too far away. I am planning to put the original seat on some sliders. Other than that - no real changes are planned.
That is a very nice car. I've liked it ever since the first time I saw it. Jerry Hagens has an eye for building cars. And, he's a tall guy so that may be why the seat is so far back.
I was trying to get a thread on ‘32 cabs - not to highlight mine. Let’s see some more ‘32 cabs - Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Reality is, that there are not many out there. Until I saw yours, I have never seen a ‘32 cabriolet that I considered a true hot rod. (Except F&Js on here). Yours is a true hot rod, absolutely stunning. I would like to see more cabriolets also. bttt
Now a local Ozzie (Interstate) car, hence the fenders This one looks familiar? Your choice of colour just pops, beautiful car and tastefully done Not to hijack thread, here's another rare body style, a sports coupe. We had them here from 28-33/4? This is the only cabriolet I saw at Deuce Day 2016, every other body style was represented except these A few other HAMBers cars, there are some project 32 cabriolets here on the HAMB as well. NICE CAR ! HRN quote, 10,000 Roadsters, just shy of 6,000 Cabriolets were produced 1932. I have not seen many here in Wisconsin, can think of only 2, both Hot Rods, nice cars and when traveling always look at 32's, again do not see many.
The very first Hot Rod I ever saw was a HEMI powered '32 Cabriolet some time in 1961. I'll dig up a photo, it was featured in one of the Little Page magazines. In my mind it was a show car until I saw the magazine photos 20 years later. Really like that car that started this thread. Bob
But one you posted above is not a cabriolet, it was a 5w that lost it's roof many years ago. It has lots of differences like the raised bead between deck lid and quarter panels for example. Cabriolet & 3w never had that bead like used on 5w, sport coupes, and roadsters.
Found it! The HAMB search does work if you keep trying. This photo was posted by masracingtd1167, the '32 I first saw at the beach in Westport, Ct. around 1961. This photo shows the car at Dover Drag Strip in New York. Bob
So obviously you’re talking about your own. I thought that there was something different about it, but could not figure it out. Still a neat rod !
I like that one a lot. I’ve seen some current photos of it on here somewhere. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I’ve seen that car before but don’t recall where. It might be in France, but for sure the owner said it had been pieced together. You are correct about it being a Sport Coupe and the quarters are Cabriolet.
Interesting thread......I never knew or noticed that there was a difference between a 32 Sport Coupe and a 32 Cabriolet.............the Sport Coupe has the full door, is it the same size as the 4dr front door?...........here in Oz we got the Sport Coupe as the only "coupe" and that body style continued into 33 until Oz Ford came out with their 5 window coupes..............good to learn something each day..............andyd
To me it appears visually that the cabriolet doors are longer. It may be an illusion due to not having the heavy metal door frame around the door glass. The quarters and rear end of a cabriolet are of a different design than the sport coupe, too.
Glad to see this thread. I just bought a project car that the PO never finished. It has a Gibbon body and Roadster Shop IFS chassis, so it needs to be a full-fendered car, which I prefer anyway. I cannot find anyone selling top bows or tops. I think I may need to make a Carson style lift-off top. The PO also removed the dip where the top meets the sides of the body, so a custom top will probably be necessary anyway.
