  4. You might try Max Navarro in Santa Monica, (310) 774-6723. I have had this number for a long time, you may need to search for the current one. Beside to post your results. I will need someone soon.

Try Mike Johnson at Speedway Transmission. Mike and his son have drove stock cars on the half mile oval at Irwindale Speedway for years. Mike is a car enthusiast who may be able to help you. Tell Mike that Tom, the jalopy guy sent you. Good Luck.

The early top and side shifter trans are very easy to rebuild and you can accomplish it yourself at home. If it's too much for you, toss it in the trunk and drive up the hill to Tehachapi and I will give you a lesson and you can do the rest forever! At worst, buy a book from Mac on ford barn and learn that way. I used to rebuild them starting when I was a kid , for the older guys that would scatter them regularly behind hot flatheads and later overheads. Made good money that went into my 48 coupe! PM if interested. Just remember to brig lots of bench racing stories to tell while we work!

"deucemac" is correct. I had only cursory experience rebuilding transmissions when I decided to rebuild the '39 box I was going to put behind the 276" Merc in my '36 3-window. It was really quite easy and turned out quite well; I broke a few rear axles, but the transmission soldiered on until I sold the car 7 years later. I would take "deucemac" up on his offer; I bet you'll have a lot of fun and learn a lot in the process. I will take the liberty of clarifying the "Mac on ford barn" statement. His company is "Van Pelt Sales" (I think the website is "vanpeltsales.com") and he will have all the parts you might need and has a great book on these transmissions as well. DO NOT confuse him with "Mac's Auto Parts" in Lockport, New York (soon to be Florida). They specialize in generic "re-pop" parts and overcharging for shipping.
