Just found a January 1960 issue of Car Craft in the basement with a feature on the Excaliber built by Ed Roth. Is there a story behind it being renamed The Outlaw? I like the wire wheels and topless Out Law better. What Roth car used a Civil War saber for a shift lever, I remember that feature from the early 1960 when I saw the car in the New York Coliseum show. Bob
Roth said he changed the name to Outlaw in 1960 because people couldn’t pronounce the name Excalibur. The radiator is from a 3 cylinder German car called a Dkw and it is behind the grill and you can see it hanging below the frame in some pics
Always thought using that sword for the shifter was the cats nuts! Moriarity your version is just beautiful!
I’ll have to see if I can dig up some photos of Marks car in construction. Always thought it was super cool.
Ones I took winter of.... 2001 ish maybe? They were in black and white film. I’ve got them in a book somewhere I’m sure.
I feel like at the time you’d just found or were tying to find the dodge windshield frame, I remember talk about the sword shifter as well. @Tman got one of those baby aluminum nail heads from you, I think that’s how we all ended up at your place. @Tuck had his black Galaxy on a trailer with out the front clip on it I can’t remember if he came over with us.
So it was The Excaliber / Outlaw that had the sword shifter, I couldn't have been over 12 years old when I saw the car. Funny how details like that stick in your memory. Bob
I wonder if this was the same weekend that @PasoJohn had the Hamb xmas party at his place in Edina and I think @Tman ran the bbq grill there. and didn't @Tuck have the front clip off his galaxie because he had had a clutch explosion or something??
Yup I’ve got pictures of most of that. Junk yard dog 32 showed up in his five window, @Rocky was there and loads of others. Think Stevie D was there... having a hard time remembering more names at the moment. It was an entirely different era of hamb haha
In case anyone was wondering here is a pic of the radiator Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Love it. Seeing “big mess, big success” on your door was burnt into my brain for the rest of my life haha
