s-l500.jpg s-l1600.jpg unnamed.png s-l1600 (1).jpg s-l1600 (3).jpg s-l1600 (4).jpg s-l1600 (6).jpg s-l1600 (7).jpg s-l1600 (2).jpg I was fortunate enough to stumble across this 29 sedan hot rod that has survived since the 50's...it was sold in the Nov issue of Hot Rod Magazine to a guy in Fresno CA...the car came from Santa Barbara according to the ad....I bought it from the owners friend who had it for a very short time...nothing was done to it while he owned the car...it was driven until 1966 then parked...never put back on the street again...it has all 1956 Vette running gear with the coveted dual quad motor...3 speed trans...vette rear end.
My buddy and I are in the process now of reviving the drive train...all rubber lines are dried up and brittle...motor spins freely...we have the heads off now cleaning and checking the valves...everything seems to be in nice shape with minimal wear..should start bolting it back together next week, then we will try firing it up...the first two pics are the ad from the 1962 Hot Rod Magazine...just check out some of those prices!!...the 3rd pic is from sometime when it was on the road...

Everything was going smoothly breaking the motor down for inspection till I hit the goop in the intake under the thermostat...I don't know what it was but it was backed up into the heads...the last pic is nut shell down in the in block...carbs were off at one time,I guess a squirrel was having dinner IMG_2110.JPG IMG_2111.JPG IMG_2116.JPG IMG_2117.JPG

Per the inflation rate calculator that 1475.00 is equal to 12293.88 today. That still would be a fair price for that car as it sits.
I no doubt looked at that add when the magazine came in the mail as some times that was the first thing I looked at as a hot rod crazed 15 year old.

Any idea why the paint seems pretty decent in some places and has delaminated in others? Nice find, just a little jealousy from here:)

I'd wonder if it maybe had a tarp over it that rubed the fender and or had somethng bumping against the fender and door on a regular basis for years. Maybe the door of a pickup being opened against the door. Even if it had a cover over it that might take a tole over the years.

On that engine, if it were me I'd pull it, strip it down while carefully organizing the parts and hot tank the block and put new cam bearings in it and do a valve, rings rods and mains job on it so it was all clean and fresh. Not a huge expense that way but then you know what you have.
