Just decided to chop my 31 coupe. First time working on cars. Tigin it. Havent welded for 28 years. 4 inches. Might need help on this one. I'll try to post as i go. Feel free to comment/advise/whatever.. Wish me good luck.
Memory says you will need to make a vertical cut either side of the rear window panel as the roof is bigger at the top... Split the w/s post, door and quarter metal outside the glass , crush the bottom, spread the top, use a straight edge to keep the glass channels flush... w/s garnish will be another challenge as you cut below the swing arm... sorry no pix... … go illja go !
Hi again. Looking for advice anybody.. Im trying to set the top as straight as i can before tacking it together. But the rear top is almost1/8" wider at both sides than the bottom part ! ! T-strips and rear window don't line up... Do i push/brace the bottom apart to make it line up OR will this line up when i do vertical cuts on the "corners" ?? Suggestions are welcome as i suspect there are surely other ways to do it!? Thanks
Line up the T strip, cut a kerf in the "top" half near where it don't line up and give it room to align up.
This is an example of an A pillar on a 32 from another thread. Split the metal near where you want to move or manipulate it. Line it up, tack, fill the voids with weld. Repeat...
See, I'm very content to keep mine full-fendered and stock hight until I see something like this! Perfect! ~ Carl
