  5. The car is not particularly beautiful but I love it. It’s kinda like a rolling Picasso. Not to mention being decades ahead on some features.
Showed my students both the old and new videos of the Sahara. They were blown away. Most agreed it is strange looking but marveled at the technology from 60 years ago. One asked why it took so long for these features to appear in modern cars. I asked them what features could they invision now that would be decades ahead.
Nice to see a persons efforts being appreciated and inspiring so many years later.

Those "golden" tires are just too cool for school.

I was at a body shop a month ago. The owner has interest in cars and has a few himself. He and a co-worker discovered the Golden Sahara and watched it`s hype on the internet and were amazed how much it brought at the auction. Being a custom nut, they asked me about it. I told them the story and the life it led. Was built from a wrecked car to being on TV in the 50`s. And a little about Jim Street and his monkey. They were impressed with the car. Then I told them about Voodoo Larry`s version. They googled it and were equally impressed. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the history is what makes the car a standout. A true classic. I have always liked the car from the first time I saw it in a magazine.

It's easy to criticize designers of the past.
You have to remember design trends of the 50's and 60's.
Golden Sahara was cutting edge and ahead of it's time.
It's design and beauty were unique then and now as it captured
an era of forward thinking design. Remember the
concept cars of the time as shown here.
