My wife and I are heading to Vegas in a week. yeah I know, bad timing,....we just missed Viva!! Don't remind me!

Anyway, we sort of "won" a trip to Vegas (well she did, it was from her work,..long story) but we'll be there from the 11-14th, leaving the night of the 14th. I've never been there, but I was hoping some of you cats might know of some cool digs there, some places to see some good music, rockabilly, car shows, etc.??

I'd hate to be there if I miss something while I'm in town, so i thought what better way to see what's up then to post here, and go from there!

    Thanks in advance guys!

What do you like what don't you like? Are you actually interested in the strip or no.

The first thing these guys are going to tell you is.... gamble, rent a hooker for you and your wife and visit every strip club in town... Well not everyone is into that.
Here's a link to a local entertainment paper that may help:
    http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/

    Now my recommendations:
Go see Forum Shops at Caesers, Venetian, Luxor (because you'll never see something like that), Bellagio is pretty neat and you'll want to see the water show out front for sure. You must also go down to Fremont Steet and check out the canopy and old school casinos down there. Hard Rock is also cool if you want to get off the stip for a bit.

If you like roller coasters New York New York, Sahara and the ghetto clown hotel of Circus Circus can provide, also the Stratosphere.

Lots of good bars but only a hand full of great ones. If you like cool punk rock bars with a cool element the Double Down Rocks, the Bunk House (Freemont area), the Art Bar, and several others I just can't think of right now that someone will remind me of...

Off the stip there IS actually stuff to do. If you want a break from tourism and you have a rental car, take a day and check out Mt. Charleston and Red Rock State Park. If you like to hike you can do that while you're there. BRING WATER!!! It's friggin' hot here right now! Tripple digits with no chance of rain (for now)!!

If you want directions to anything, send me a PM, I'll be glad to help out.

There's enough to do in those few days you're here. You won't be board!

Oh yeah... couple more things... check out the car museum at Imperial Palace... cheap to get in and some cool cars. Also, there is an aquarium in Mandalay Bay called the Shark Reef, that's pretty cool too. If you want to check out So Cal speed shop for some overpriced parts, that might be worth your quick venture as well.

Dude, I'm into everything vintage from the mid '50s on BACK,...Sinatra, Elvis, Rockabilly, retro, vintage, artie shaw, Rose Maddox,art-deco, western swing, bob wills!!

I've been surfin the net and I haven't found anything good to do except to visit a few places in OLDS VEGAS, which won't take much more than a few hours at best! I know Viva Lasvegas is THE thing to do, but I can't imagine that there's NOTHING to do that interests me. I'd like to find a few good rockabilly shows, car shows, hell, by what I'm seeing on the web, I'd be interested in seeing your project so far than having to deal with all the glitzy modern B.S. on the strip! I mean I'd rather have a beer and stare at a hot rod, than pay $70 bucks a person to get in to the big show on the strip! :D

    HELP!

Yeah I want to see the strip, but I'm not a gambler, nor do I see myself getting busy with a hooker and my wife! LOL!:D

I just don't want to end up sitting my ass next to a pool for hours on end while my wife yaps it up with her friends who will be there from work,...or you'll be reading about this tattood guy who drowned himself at the bellaggio (hell I dont know if its even spelled that way!! geesh!) Some of the things you mentioned sound pretty nice actually, I can see us seeing the sights in and out of vegas. Heck, I'd say I'd be interested in seeing the So-Cal shop too,...(I can't believe I said that!!) lol,...no really, I'd like to see it if possible, I just don't want to be hearded in and out like some goofy tourist though.
Anyway, are ther any of the Shifters or anyone that can help also? I know there are some cool cats lurking there once in a while,...

Give a bro a hand man!:)

Scooter,...I think you will be my guide to Vegas!! LOL

Try a stroll around Boulder City it's sorta "old School" as it was built in the old days when the dam was being constructed and has NO gambling. A good place for breakfast or lunch. Also theres a dinner cruise on Lake Mead on an old river boat that you and your wife may enjoy. ......Bob

definitely take the bus from the strip to the neon boneyard, it's all the old, no longer in-use neon signs from days gone by, there's some cool really shit in there! it's not that far away from where you're staying.

Im not sure if its still there, but Gray Baskervilles Roadster was on Desplay at the socal Shop in vegas in February. THat was worth the trip alone, got to sit in it even.

Goto the hilton and do the star trek experience. even if your not a trekkie its still pretty damn cool.

MGM Grand Buffet, all you can eat shrimp and ribs, yeah buddy

  10. Take the helicopter ride out over the Grand Canyon. About $400. and worth every penny. They will set you down on a plateau in the west end of the canyon and give you a nice lunch and some mimosa and the views are beyond belief. You fly over the spot where Thelma and Louise took a header. I have video of the experience and it is quite an experience.

Hey you guys rock! Tred, I'll be sure to call you even BEFORE I get out there so we can set something up! hey, Tred, weren't you in DE not long ago??!! I'm friggin confused!!

I found some cool OLD things on another site taht dealt with OLD Vegas,...Goldengate Hotel/Casino (the whole Fremont St. thing looks pretty cool), The Museum of the American Cocktail, (sounds kinda weird, so I'm game!), El Portal Theater (built in 1928, looks vrey cool), The Stardust Hotel/Casino, The Neon Sign Boneyard (which I almost forgot about, thanks Tred!!)and for food at anytime we need to, this might be helpful??

    http://www.vegas.com/restaurant/specials.html

Then I want to see how the whole vintage clothing this is these days in Vagas. I found some listings for some places that should have some cool 40's -50s threads,..
Valentinos, Retro Vintage Clothing and a place called The Attic?? I'm sure some of you guys might know some off the beaten path places to shop for vintage stuff.

Yeah so again, THANK YOU for all the interesting tips and such! I'll be in touch with Tred, and ScooterMcrad,..PM me your ph# man. We'll get together and ride (well, I'll ride with one of you cats that is) and hang out one night or something! Cool, thanks and keep the cool ideas coming!

Has nobody mentioned the Elvis A Rama museum? They have free shuttle busses going there, and you can find discount coupons in those coupon books they hand out....I think it's killer, I go every time I'm in vegas!

I've been to the Liberace museum in Vegas as well, it was kinda cool. Maybe if you're into Liberace more you might dig it.

  13. Youre gonna have fun man!

also, go see fat elvis[tm] at the barbary coast (next to the flamingo). he is a very good (although 400 pound man) elvis impersonator. sit and watch him sing, or play penny slots and get free drinks while you play and listen to him sing.

he claims that he's actually elvis' son...

Call the Sunbelt museum and see if there is a tour booked that you can tag along with... they won't let just a couple of folks in because its a private collection, but if they are having a tour already they will usually let you tag along. Here is the website: http://www.sunbeltcars.com
Waaaaaaay better than the crappy Imperial Palace collection... they sold off the good stuff years ago when the old guy died.

(For your wife... Heidi Fleiss has a "dude" brothel in Pahrump... I think its called the Stud Ranch or something...)

Go have dinner and drinks on Mt. Charleston. (My favorite place in Vegas!)

Vegas was cool! The strip is overrated though,..but still fun.

We were all over the place,..but not much time off the strip though.....next time we'll be off the strip and staying with Scooter! We had some cell phone issues which plaugued us so we couldn't get in touch with Tred again, (sorry bout that!! and then we forgot to try you again!!,..SORRY!!!)
Got together with ScooterMcrad,...great guy! Good people,...don't screw with him or I'll hunt you down and eat your young!!

Anyway, we really loved the Elvis-a-Rama! Very cool. Got some good pics, etc. there! VERY sad taht it will be town down in August!! If you haven't been there yet,...GO. Its a bit cheesey, but then its Vegas. However, the historical aspect can't be beat there in ragards to Elvis and Vegas! Cool!

We hung out and mourned the horrible stupid-ass canopy thing that's hung over Freemont Street! WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING!! Now Freemont St IS Vegas to me man! Viva Las Vegas! (in my best Elvis voice,... ) Got to a few very overpriced vintage shops,...crazy friggin people! Went all over from the Flamingo to the Frontier to the Elvis museum, Barbery Coast, So-Cal Speedshop, GoldCoast (we got our souvernier boot drink too!),....then we had the idea to go to New York, New York. Had dinner at the Nice Irishmen. Good food, but it was weird, when the irish band took a break, they were playing bad 80's tunes on the stereo?? So here you are, all Irish and stuff and suddenly you go from the "Irish Rover" to, "Rock the Cradle of Love?? "

We then decided to see the local Coyote Ugly bar,...well, there was way more "UGLY" then there was "COYOTE!!!" That is for sure! I don't drink much but I think my subconcious told me to get plastered in lieu of the horrible chicks that got on the bar from the cowd,...one was even a 67 yr old lady!! So after four jack and cokes, two Coronas and something else, I was totally LOOPED! So that's what it was like to see two of something huh?? Wow! LOL! I on the way back to our hotel while on the street, think I said something to one of the mexicans handing out porno flyers on the street regarding porn, mexico and the smell on the street?? or something?? There was a lot of seeing double, this I know!

Yeah,...didn't want to leave,....God I hate our weather here in PA!! Again, great to meet ya Scooter!
