I was at Sears Point [as usual] in the late 1990s and spotted Jr. Thompson on a bicycle,
he was checking out Jay Souza's Willys coupe, this is before Dennis the Menace
owned it. Jay was running it that day, big $ in an alcohol motor.
Got to spend sometime talking with him.
No date on photos, my old camera,

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Troilo at Bakersfield, Ca. [nostalgia drags],
he gave me some build shots of the SW&C coupe along with permission to share them.
Here's a copy-n-paste of an e-mail he sent explaining a few things about the car,
then I post the photos, see below,
    Mick

    • Mick, A second Willys was debuted around early 1963 by the SWC team.It was painted the same light blue as the BG/S. It also ran an Olds engine but had fiberglass doors, deck, rear fenders and a Cal front end. This became Swindler "A". It had a black interior and gold leaf lettering. In 1964 it was fitted with a Hemi and painted black to accentuate the engine change. Sometime during that year Doug blew a trans, wet the slicks and hit the guard rail destroying the body. The car received another body and at this time both cars were painted dark candy blue. There has been rumors about the black car going to Canada but never substantiated. When the team broke up around 72/73 it had been without Doug Cook since 1968. There was no love lost between Cook and Woods. Cook never raced after his crash in Alton, Illinois and got mad at Woods for continuing to use the Stone, Woods and Cook name on the cars. Eventually the name of Cook had an "e" added. A lawsuit has even been rumored but I don't know that to be true. Cook had kept the AG/S car when it retired with some of it's parts being removed somewhere along the line. Mike Cook eventually ended up with what was left and still has it today. You must remember that as the years progressed it became more about the money. The cars were used as a match racers more than class racing. The name Stone, Woods and Cook will always be remembered as King of the Gassers during the sixties and not for how the team ended in the seventies.

      Joe

Note: During the years parts such as lettered fenders, doors and hoods were removed for different lettering schemes, larger tires etc. Some of these parts were found by others. You can guess what that means. There has only been two Willys cars. Both of them were re-bodied once. Mike Cook has one and Mike Wales and I have the other.

Pat, I only saw the car that one time in 2013 and didn't get a chance to talk with the owner so I don't know. Not sure if this is a steel car, the rear section looks suspicious as does the firewall sides...

I was listening to some oldies yesterday and CC Rider came on.
Sung by Chuck Willis, Willis as in the correct pronunciation of Willys.
So I googled CC Rider [the car] and I see that it ran in CC/G then CC/GS.
Another good reason for the name CC Rider.
Then I checked out the book Supercharged Gas Coupes by the late Don Montgomery,
and I see that they show a picture of the car taken by Dean Court when it was in NY,
    page 141...
Dean lived in NY many years ago.
Interesting stuff on Dave Lamb's Willys coupe, see attached, the car is now for sale too,

Those are Johnny Rocca's re-creations. The K.S. car is in Garlit's museum. Last I heard, Johnny still had the SWC cart his house. They put on a very entertaining show.

    Back to 41s.
The wife and I went to Eagle Field twice last year [Lodi, Ca.].
Saw Gary Reinero's Willys coupe both times.
Didn't bring his Austin last year.

I don't have time to go back through all 200 plus pages but hopefully none of these have been posted in recent memory.

Did I say that? Holy cow...
You're absolutely right. I'm losing it...please don't hesitate to correct me.
We trailered the coupe to Kingdon years ago, a guy in an altered rolled over but was OK.
Later that day he passed away from a heart attack right at the track.
Man that was sad, I don't even know his name.
