Probably what some of you have been waiting for more numbers and letters.

This set of "Stamping Numbers" and "Letters" I had no idea was there. This is located on main case just under the side cover right lower area, .." S4A19 "... maybe these will tell what it is or its RPO code. Again sorry all didn't see them at first.

I have a hard on for Goggle. That's how I found pics to share. :) It's all good. I went round and round with myself doing the math to figure out a 39 tooth ring gear and 12 tooth pinion. The pinion came back around (home) every 4 turns?

Yeah Google isn't working for me on this one (S4A19) just every thing else Not related to Sag. trans.
I think your math is a little off, here's what I came up with, 39 div by 12 = 3.25 not 4.00. Now this is only my opinion but I'd get new batteries for the calculator. LOL

^^^^^ Lol, you didn't read the whole problem (math question) completely. But we'll just skip that teaser and stick with yours. Squirrel gave you some info on your other thread.

That S means manufactured in Saginaw Michigan, from 1962 to 1979. As for RPO, that was just GM's in house way of saying we're using a 3 speed or 4 speed in any given vehicle. Then next a ratio would be decided by given engine type an L6 or V8 then rear end gear ratio was factored in as a final answer as to what ratio to put into said vehicle.

Please look at my avatar. If my 56 tried doing roundy round, I'd be sure to loose. :)

I'll give you this much. When I converted my 56 Chevy to manual trans from automatic, I started with a Saginaw 3 speed. Only problem was the 3.11 first gear. That first gear didn't couple well with 4.10's out back. So I drove it using 2 3 only. ;)

Like I said I'm not real good with riddles or the likes. This pic is me at 19 I think somewhere around 1970. It was my first Tri-5, the others were 55 BelAir 6cyl 3OTT no post, elect windows and seats. My other was a 55 hot rodded one was a 150 no frills stripped down car, this one I used to kick the s h ! t out of Roadrunners (so much for Mo Par) 56 chevy.jpg , LOL

In order for a question to be answered correctly, the question needs to be correct as well. When has a swallow ever carried a load within it's core? Nesting materiel doesn't count since it's forward of CG factor for which swallow has no idea about nor can it do math to compensate. It just goes with the flow given.

LOL, yes, learned it's a truck transmission. I like it because I'm going to use the shift cover as it has a drilled out boss for a reverse switch. I will place this cover on my '69 Saginaw 3sp+od transmission.
