the big mill needs a spindle rebuild after years of machining dies. the bearing are worn out. powered by a 50 hp motor it spins at 3000 rpm as the photo shows this spindle is bit bigger then your average bridgeport weighing in at a svelte 4000lbs it will be sent out to a special shop that rebuilds these spindles , est. cost $15,000
That’s a good size. I use to build spindles for KT back in the late 70s. The tool holder alone weighed 110 lbs. I now repair cnc machines and have rebuilt some 15k rpm spindles for okuma and some smaller ones for other brands. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
