DSCF0692.JPG the big mill needs a spindle rebuild after years of machining dies. the bearing are worn out. powered by a 50 hp motor it spins at 3000 rpm

as the photo shows this spindle is bit bigger then your average bridgeport weighing in at a svelte 4000lbs

it will be sent out to a special shop that rebuilds these spindles , est. cost $15,000

I dream of having a mill big enough to bore blocks with.

That’s a good size. I use to build spindles for KT back in the late 70s. The tool holder alone weighed 110 lbs. I now repair cnc machines and have rebuilt some 15k rpm spindles for okuma and some smaller ones for other brands.

Ahh, from your title I thought you had to rebuild your front SPINDLES because you put a BIG MILL (engine) in your Hot Rod. :p

  10. Remember it’s not the size of your spindle , it’s how you use it !:D
