I’m prepping my newest project for a color change , the petty blue needs to go I and have narrowed it down to silver or gold, or at least for now I have because I just don’t see any other color looking right on it. It’s going to be a 60’s style build , all black interior, black wheels will stay with new big and little white walls but I can’t seem to figure out which I like more , I follow the golden hot rods thread and haven’t come up with anything for silver so I’m hoping to see more examples so I’ll take any feed back if anyone is willing, or better yet post up your silver or gold hot rods IMG_3195.JPG

  3. I'm not feeling the blue so I'll back you up on the new paint idea. Silver and gold both have the metallic element in the paint but they are (my worthless opinion) a bit brassy for that body style. What do you think about a rootbeer brown metallic? Sort of classy, not sassy or brassy. Perhaps with a lighter primer for a bit more glow factor.

for that body style just going with only a pure silver or gold is too much - without a body line, or roof line to add another color or deeper tint be best to go with a brilliant metallic blue or red - lots of options out there - look at the "46-48 Ford Picture Thread" for ideas

  6. I like your thinking. If the rootbeer metallic I suggested is too much like an old man's color, a deep cherry metallic on that curvey bodywork will play with the light in some in some nice, sexy ways.

I have to recommend you visit the photoshop thread and ask for some assistance so you can actually see what your car would look like with a few different choices of colors as well as the different tires, either narrow or WWW. Those guys provide a great service to us free for the asking!

  8. I agree with @302GMC ; pick a color from the era you're replicating.

Here's a website to help you pick a color:
    http://paintref.com/paintref/index.shtml

    Some examples:
    '57 Chevy Grecian gold
    '63 Chevy bronze
    '69 Camaro champagne
    '69 Nova Olympic gold

    1969 chevy champaign.jpg
    1969 nova olympic gold.jpg

    Hope this helps!

I am stuck in a visual rut. All I see it in is black. I agree with you that the blue is not right for it.

If it has to be either silver or gold I vote for gold. 90% of the cars on the road these days are silver.

The Shift Wizard has something with his cherry suggestion. Look up a black cherry color used on 1969 Firebirds. Back in the 70s I painted several cars that color for customers, from VW beetles to Fords to Pontiacs, they all looked good and the customer was always pleased with the way they looked. It is a dark rich color that would suit a forties car but with a glow.

Internet photos don't do colors justice but it is something like this.

Ask HRP to post a picture of his friend's "confused pickup". It's a beautiful gold. OR search for confused pickup.

Those are actually two of my other color choices I had in mind but it would be candy since I have a lot left over from previous car and it’s my favorite two colors on a hot rod

It's a '46 Super DeLuxe, note the chrome trim around windows, etc.

Black would shine like a Cuban Dancer's heel...and all that stainless trim would sparkle...
My Fordor sedan is a '47, no chrome around windows. It's faded black...

I found it I like that a lot that’s the shade I was thinking too , I also thought about that for my base if I did the root beer or kandy brandy wine. That’s why I’ve leaned towards these two colors because if I get tired of them or don’t like them I was going to spray candy over top of them

Yes this car was still wearing it’s original black paint before the po thought painting it that ugly blue would help it sell he said the old paint was too rough for him and to make it worse he only taped it up and sprayed it no sanding or nothing

Your thread title reminds me of Ace Ventura... "Einhorn, Finkle. Finkle, Einhorn.":)

Anyway, I really like the gold one cosmo50 posted, and I have a life long love affair with silvers and greys, so that is saying something.
