The inaugural Kooralbyn, Queensland, Australia drags were held last weekend. An eclectic mix of old school, Gassers and customs fronted. It was flag drop, no times, no egos, no drama type event. You raced whoever was beside you. Eighth mile, no track prep, no burnout. Just good fun. I'll put some more videos up when I download them.
So, was this held on an air strip or a public road? Inquiring minds want to know. I am Butch/56sedandelivery. Well, I'm going to say it's an airstrip beside Boomerang Lagoon? Looks like a closed air strip, at leastwise via GoogleMaps.Com.
It's an airstrip that was attached to a resort. The rich and tasteless used to fly in and play a couple of rounds of polo, chugalug expensive wine and discuss how to get the peasants to work harder for less money. Then it went belly up, laid dormant for quite a few years until someone grabbed it cheap and fixed it up. The airstrip was up for sale separately and as far as I can tell it's still for sale. It's in pretty good condition actually for its age. A local Hotrod club got together and set it up.
This all looks very cool - but the organisers really need better barriers for crowd / spectator protection. Would be a good idea if they googled Troy Critchley - a really sad story but a sobering message how things can go bad real quick, even when you know what you are doing and have good intent https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...a91110c92516&usg=AOvVaw24KHeU-pA8GtUuZnmgG38b
Yep, and cars can go backwards quickly also. I’ve seen guys launching and been stuck in reverse, thinking they were about to go forwards. Apart from the ‘possible’ safety issues, it looks like a neat day . Thanks for posting.
You make a valid point. I've been involved when an 8 second car did an exhibition run on a local street, 1/8 mile, and it went wrong. Fortunately no one was hurt, but that and a few other safety concerns ended my involvement with such events.
