I loved the look of my 40 coupe with wide whites, Just couldn't pay the $$$ for Croker or Diamondback tires. These black tires ride ,drive, handle and Balance so much better than the Crokers for 1/3 the price. No rant on any brand but the ALL WWW are just to much for me ! Being retired, I am very fortunate to have my car.

Looks more like a Hot Rod with the black walls. Nice!

    Very nice ride.
I like your car much better with the black wall tires although I’ll admit to being biased that way because I despise white walls on anything.

While I love the look of wide whitewalls- I blame it on the Monogram "Big T" kit, I'm such a klutz that mine are scratched up already and the car still hasn't really left the garage. Lots to be said for blackwalls.

  6. If you're happy and you saved a few frogskins to boot, what's not to like? "Better" is a relative adjective. It means what you want it to mean and nobody can argue with that.
    Nice car either way.

  7. The black walls make it more comfortable looking, the www make it more showroom, don't touch looking .

Those wide whites looked pretty 'snazzy' on this '40...Whitewalls state era, so there's forgiveness in changing to the blackwalls.
...And there's only one 'R' in Coker'. And lots of $$$$'s.

You have a great car, not a lot of us have big wallets, we do the best we can. Don't apologise for a car we all would love to own. :)

Have always had black walls on my Standard Tudor. Sometimes with old aluminum slot mags. Love your red coupe!

Great looking car either way! As Saltflats stated, there are a lot of people grinding them down if you really want them and not wanting to dish out the coins.

Blackwalls. I opted for them on my coupe (in avatar) and I think they suit the car better.

  22. The good thing about your 40 Ford is that it would look good with just about any tires on it. Well, not those skanky bigass two foot tall "rims" with the rubber band tires.

    Textbook example, Harpo...^^^^

The first '40 Coupe I did extensive work on was an early SBC installation. It was done in 1956, a 265. A friend bought it from the 'installer', a college student.
1958, Rick had me do some repairs, then drive the car for any 'problems'...
I could immediately see the 'why' of this particular swap.
Sure 'smoothed out' the driveability of that '40!

You can probably get a set of Whitewall Inserts (or spats) for around or under $100. I think a company called Atlas still makes them and maybe a few others. Mooneyes has some too.

  29. Times have changed, I used greased lightning, spray on let it set for a few minutes and run your brush around the tire a couple of times and rinse and they look brand new. HRP

Thanks for all the comments. The car is just a driver, never cut or buffed acrylic enamel , no clear and No interior !! Just what I had (with a flat motor) in 1962 when I was 16 !! One thing is still the same , No money then and no money now.
