Look like 1965 impala to me, my dad has a 65 SS.

 

Now these seats are darn fine - that interiors something to be proud of

Diamond (sewn) tufted. As was asked earlier. First lay out your design. Then you fold the material on the line and sew the bold line. Thus giving you the diamond shape. Sorry, but I did this quickly just to show you how it`s done.

 

This is all hand tufted (no sewing) in a 1913 Buick I did a few years ago...

 

Here`s a Ken Worth that I cleaned the interior up a bit on. New carpet and dyed all the plastic. Factory sewn diamonds.

 

Nice work on the Buick, Jake. The way it should be done. Here`s a couple buggy seats I did that were sewn.

 

Sewn some diamonds in a co workers motorcycle seat this winter,first time in over 20 years.

I thought myself to sew a bit and started renewing and upholstering different parts of my MX-5 NB. It began with the gear gaiter, then some easier plastic parts, the center console and now I'm working on new door panels. On those I am also using the diamond pleating for the first time and have a question there. I am using a Brother CS10 machine which worked fine for my purposes so far but the only way I know to prevent seams from opening up again is to sew pack and forth a couple of stitches at the beginning and the end of each seam. But I never saw anyone doing that for the diamond pleats. Would a more professional machine use a different way of sewing so the seams won't open? I wonder if anyone has a hint on what's the best way to "lock" the seam in my case?

 

Yes. I backstitch about 3 stitches at start and end of each line.

 

Some times I tie the thread on the bottom.

My old Vette has it, seats and door panels. Done in 1973. I didn't really care for it when I got the car but it grew on me. Get many compliments as people like modified old Vettes. I do get an occasional "when are you going to restore it?" so always ask them back "why?"
