Came home yesterday- my old Cobra buddies from the 70's bought it for the date and spec correct 427 for a gennie 65 427 Cobra, and I got the rest. Straight axle, fenderwell headers, 9" rear. Was running last week, have all the stuff to put it back together- maybe even the ALGONs
Dunno about the top yet, the headliner is pretty old, portholes in the trunk, hardware looks original. Flares are attached outside, original fenderline intact, so should come right off. Not worried about that stuff yet, like to get another 427 and toploader in it first
Yes, and a '55 rear bumper. I have to say it looks to me like the rear wheel wells were radiused for tire clearance. The original fenderline around the wheels was more flat at the top where the fender skirts went on the cars. Nice ride though!! is the rear still leaf spring setup? Does it have traction bars?
I don’t know how different a 427 is to other bb ford but I think it’s cool ! Stuff another engine in it, have fun and decide down the road if and how you wanna change it!
Since your not worried about stock ... I would look at non- HAMB friendly 2015 or newer Ford Coyote out of a wrecked Mustang or a 392 Hemi.... Fill the engine bay with engine..
I remember seeing a 55 or 6 Bird sitting up that high with a straight axle and fenderwell headers on the street way back in the dark 60's. I've always wanted to build one like that just to piss off the purists.
Let the stoning begin, my engine choice would be a Small Block Chevrolet. I’ll duck now! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Unless youre hell bent on having a 427 because its a 427 , I would just build a healthy 390 or a stroked 390 . I have a .030 over 390 built by Blair Patrick that puts out 517 hp on pump gas (have dyno sheets) and after spanking someone I get a kick out of telling them its "only a 390".
As I have 9 427s and the same type 390GT toploader that was in it- I was interested as it was set up for FE already, even have all the gaskets on the shelf. If you look closely you can just see the header collectors below the fenders- also have 406 and 427 cast iron headers and a set of Sandersons, but it will probably stay this way for now. As I mentioned earlier, the flares are glued on the outside, original fender lip still underneath. No traction bars, just six-leave springs. Big old Stewart-Warner fuel pump and Dixco 8K tach. Does look like a front bumper on the back, and as there is no place to mount a plate, maybe it had a Continental kit and it got pulled off when it went hot rod. Have no intention of returning it to stock, so don't care about nit-picky details. Still thinking about putting the ALGONs on there with the 10" stacks, already a hole in the hood. Actually got a new Thunderbolt hood bubble with it. Have lotsa Americans for it. At least no dipsticks have hollered "put a Chebbie in it" lol
I think it's a '55 rear bumper with the bumper guards removed. The reason there's no plate mount is because on the '55 the plate goes above the bumper in the indentation just below the trunk lid. The indent on a 56 is not as wide and a regular license plate will not fit in. That's because the '56 came with a continental kit and the plate was mounted back there. It looks like a really fun car!
I’ll take credit for all of your statement except the Bozo part. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yep, 6 bolts, looks just like the front minus the bumper guards- looks like I'll be fabbing a plate mount. Thanks for all the positive responses, gonna be a fun car. To any and all self- amused Chebbrainwashed out there, save it, just not interested- please take your "hilarious" negative BS elsewhere and don't fudge up a nice friendly thread- thanks
Hey Gene, did that car come off of Craigslist? A while back there was a listing with pictures showing a couple modified early 'birds for sale. Just wondering. Post more pictures please, that's a great find!
