And there has been a lot of crap that had been built in large shops as well.

Some people don't know they were born! Been building this one in a single garage 22' x 7.4'. Whole process is inside as I have no driveway to push it out, I have to concrete outside the door next to get it out....
    Dream of a double garage

  3. Here's my 12 X 20 workshop. Gets a bit disorganized after a work session. Due a tidy up as it gets difficult to work in when it's like this.

I complain a lot about only having two car space. I guess I'm fortunate compared to the one car guys!!! 20170502_202035.jpeg

  8. Like some others have stated, a large garage isn't such a big deal with us that have the sickness, you will just fill it up with more crap.

    I'm very lucky, I have a 4 car garage.

Unfortunately I have 5 vehicles, a lathe and a milling machine in it.

Did my 35 Chebby in a 2-car and now building the 46 Olds in the same garage. I'd previously built cars in single car garages and attached carports. There's still not enough room with bench, tools etc however you need to adapt and use space efficiently. 20170409_144656.jpg

  11. LOL my garage in the old neighborhood was 10' wide by 25' long. When we changed the motor in the Pusher we back the truck in so that the pass door was next to the door to the kitchen. To get in and out of the cab you opened the kitchen door. To get from one side of the truck to the other you crawled under it or opened the garage door. :D

I've got a 20 x 20 to work with if I need to paint I can barrow a booth. What it does is it keeps the shit you don't need down because you have to be efficient with your space. I still have three big blocks and a small block two tool boxes a work bench welders torches ect ect.
I've got 5 pounds of shit in a 2 pound bag.

I built my first motor in a one car "carport" in Las Cruces NM, it had a little lockable garden shed on one end where the very small selection of tools were kept. I did most of the work on the 38 in a two car garage in Des Moines, IA and finished it in a two car garage in Atlantic Ia. Now I am crowded in a 40x50 two story shop that I fight my wife for space. She keeps buying more metal working tools and I have to find a place to put them:) I am living the dream:)

  15. Two car garage too small?

You need to get rid of some stuff,I built several cars in a single car garage and a few in the yard.

This was just a step up from working in the yard, dirt floor, extension cord run from the house,no heat in the winter and wasp in the summer. HRP:rolleyes:

This is timely. I've been thinking I need to sell my little tiny house, with the little tiny one car garage, and little narrow driveway. But it does the job, and it's cheap, so.... Yeah, I can't jack up the car without opening the door, and I have to duck to walk in, and no room for my slightly OT truck, but it does have a spot in the yard..... Could be worse. jhVeL9p.jpg IMG_20190112_101347_507.jpg FB_IMG_1536718706592.jpg

I got more done in my 2 car than I have in larger shops. Just bought a new house with a 40x60 2 story shop, so I'll probably never get anything done lol

Could be worse if the '31 didn't run, but at least I can pull it out to get working room for the '32. 20171004_183517.jpg

    Outside, here.
I cannot work on it inside, where it is stored. That would be against the terms of my lease.

I make my living working on cars in a 24 x 30 garage behind my residence. Rarely does a customers car sit out side. Only can fit one car in at a time. Everybody tells me I need a bigger shop.

I have built over a dozen cars in a 13' 8"×28' stall/shop. Even though my garage is 4 times that space (cold storage).I actually love it as you keep motivated to complete projects...it heats up fast in winters and does not take much to heat it.If you are organized it works fine and you DO have less space to look in if you do misplace something. The key is effiencency.

0385 (2).JPG My cpe was built in a 1 1/2 stall. Never even had it outside until the chop was completely finished. So no standing back a long ways to eye things

During my college days, I worked wherever I could. I worked in my uncle's yard, borrowed a pole barn and once installed an engine off a pecan tree limb with a logging chain and come-along.

When I was able to build a house, the first thing I did after buying the lot was to build a 30' X 30' shop. It seemed like a lot of money at the time but it was cheaper than all the cabinets in the house.

Those Turbo "K" cars hauled ass! I had a Lazer. The weakness was the distributor and the five speed transmission. Other than that, bulletproof!

So true!!! Then the nineteen nineties came along... Neighbors all of a sudden had more right to tell you how to keep things in your yard more than you did.... Sigh

A replica of Henry’s shop is at Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan, along with the actual Wright Brothers bicycle shop.
