Bill Mecey lived up the road from OCIR in Fountain Valley and was known for his Corvair engines. Ron Cohn used one in his SCTA Bonneville 65 Corvair with a 471 blower on it. It held a few record until an engine cu in change in the rule book for a lot of classes lost it.

That is unquestionably an unusual Hotrod/Racer...so again yes it is possible even if it doesn't have a Hemi...

Mine is not a Crown conversion. I used a 1973 El Dorado TH425 and a B.O.P. adaptor to fit a small block Chevy against it. It sounds easy but getting the passenger side axle through the oil pan requires thought. the overhead view shows how the transaxle literally wraps around the engine. The face and top of the engine cover are Lexan so you cant hide bad workmanship.

A guy in my high school class, mid 70's, built a V8 Corvair with the SBC sitting where the back seat used to be. He used a auto trans and a 10 or 12 bolt rear end, with a very short driveline, basically 2 u-joints, to connect them. the Radiator was mounted up in front and he used PVC t carry the coolant from the engine up to the radiator, and he louvered the hood to allow air flow. This was a high school kid who built the car, much of it in auto shop.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Norm Grabowski's Corvair powered Indian. Now that is definitely a Corvair Hot Rod. Scan-190220-0001.jpg

There is also Ed Roth's Road Agent, Gene Winfield's Reactor, and Darryl Starbird's Forcasta.

I built a '65 Corvair in 1971 with a 350 in the stock location. It used the stock trans with an adapter made by a company called "MID". Radiator was up front. It ran hot but was really fast. I finally junked it but saved the conversion parts.
Fast forward to 1993: bought a '66 Corvair and built it with a 4.3 V6 in the rear. The V6 is a much better choice.
