Working up here! A friend of mine had a 38 Chevy coupe (street car) in the late 60's, sat just like that. Had a 327/4speed, big/little Cragars, dark green paint, was in the Portland Roadster Show. I've been a big fan of the 37 and 38's ever since.
A stranger had an old black '38 Chevy coupe on South 1st in San Jose (The 'Main') one night. Pulled up on my left side, I was in the center lane. (my candy blue '26 T full fendered sedan on 'A' rails, 7/16" X 3/8" flattie, Potvin cam, 4 97s, everything worked) Light turned green, the Moon pedal went to the floor, I popped the 'sticker', my T jumped across the intersection, 4.44 rear said, "Shift!" and I did, just as this old Stove went, "Zzooom!" right past, THEN he shifts...I know it was a '38, got a GOOD look at his taillights! He didn't even 'speed-shift', when he did, he just got another big puff of fresh air and was fairly...gone. I levelled off, and shifted into high...(High as I got, crap!) He pulled over in front of Hambone's, and I caught up and stopped also...Talked a little, I wasn't used to getting beat...at least, not in 2 or 3 block sorties... Lifted the hood and I'm looking at an old SIX! With that old GMC valve cover, like on the old trucks we worked on at the shop...Old 6, but on the street side...five carburetors! So, let's see: I've got 8 cylinders, and four 97s. He's got a six, and five 97s. Logic would have said I needed MORE CARBURETORS! But I knew better... My clock had been cleaned, by pure torque. I can still hear that roar, 'Zzoooom!'
I can't see it now. It's all the way up top and I'm giving a BS reply so that might be it Cool coupe, now you have to tell us about it.
LMAO, thanks guys. My puter gliched, and since it did, it takes a different route for me to post pics.
"If it presented itself." I would settle for your avatar if it "presented itself"...................................
Welcome back; you've really got to watch your back on that, "drag racing", site. I won't mention the name, but it's the same color as urine, what they call cowards, and was the name of that "X"-Hands tribe in the movie, Horse. We've got your back! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
