To my knowledge and research the super twister was damaged beyond repair.

Restoring it back to its original glory, I doubt it will ever make a full power pass down a track again, but running driving and being on display for everyone to enjoy is the plan.

  3. Glad to see this is going to be restored to its former glory. Congrats on getting this historic car.

Wow this was a great car, and will be fun to watch you getting it face ready and running more 7 seconds!
I think what Frank is asking is this car went from 'Seatons Shaker' to Seatons Super Shaker' to 'Super Twister' then crashed "damaged beyond repair" however is now a rolling body with a good looking front end and chassis...
Do you know who rebuilt it after the crash?
    Cheers Aaron.

Great save, appears to have been very well engineered, would be interested to know how it goes from being a famous racer that could do nearly 200 in the 1/4 to an abandoned vehicle at a tow yard slated for scrap. Glad it was saved.

I'm also confused, was the fiberglass bodied version a completely different car?

Aaron this is the first version of the Super Shaker corvair. This is the first chassis with the steel quarters/roof. 66-67 it started with an injected 427 running speeds in the 160mph range and soon after received its supercharged 427 which pushed the car to almost 200mph.

They built a new chassis more suited for the blower motors power and speed for the 68 season. It was a full fiberglass flip top car, later sold and renamed the Super Twister. And eventually was crashed beyond repair.

So to my knowledge this is the only remaining corvair from Seatons stable. And with it being their first one kinda makes it that much more special and in need of restoration in my opinion.

After they sold the the second corvair they moved to a flip top nova body.

Yes it was the second build. Different chassis all together.

Thanks for clearing it up. You have the first version and the second was the one believed to be beyond repair. Quite frankly, I would rather have the first version you have.

  20. Does anyone know if the 65 or 66 cars survive? Im a big fan of this era. Im gad the car is being restored. Unfortunately many cars found are over restored or dont follow what would be correct. I hope you dont choose one of these paths. Its a harder way to restore a vintage car but the results are worth it. This car deserves the best.

OK found a Hot Rod article that lays out the whole Seaton/Hedrick story here:

    Some photos from the article

“Chevy Shall Rise Again” proclaimed the lettering on the Corvair’s spoiler. When Seaton and Hedrick started winning consistently, it was changed to “Chevy Has Risen Again.”

That was my father's car Howard (Howdy) Bartlett Jr.. I haven't seen that car except in pictures since 1969 or 70, when he sold it after moving from Warren, Ohio to the Intercoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale (My mother's much older replacement didn't like him racing). I would stand at the door to the garage & watch them work on it. Mother said I would say "Da Da Go Zoom" over & over. When it would be fired up everything shook (neighbors hated it though) & till this day I still love the sound & feel of heavy thunderstorms. The house was part of a country club community so I'm pretty sure when we moved the neighbors threw a "Going Away Party" ! Funny we weren't invited though.......

Welcome to the Hamb @HowardBartlett...not sure what your Hotrod/Custom likes are these days but it looks like it was going to be restored as many of these vintage classics unearthed these days are thankfully...but this Hamber hasn't been on for a while...I wonder if he got around to getting it together...

    Anyone know Hamber JMR?

I bet you had a tingle in the heart looking at this Thread...

I can't believe it was 2017 when I posted on this Thread......seems like yesterday...

Theres a great Corvair Thread here...I'll see if I can find that Thread and share a link...
