One week, while driving back from San Diego along the coast, my wife saw a cool looking dark sedan sitting at an old gas station. There were plenty of other cars and trucks around it, so we decided to see the sedan the next time we are in this area. A week or so later, as we drove up, it was a weird situation as the business was open. But, no one was around. We did not want to seem like “intruders.” So, a couple of quick photos and off we went.

Trying to identify an old car is difficult enough, since we are not old car buffs like some people in the USA. But, because it looked like late 30s-early 40s, we had a starting point. After three tries, we hit the jackpot. (no need to search Ford or Chevy) It was a 1939 Dodge Sedan with its identifying grille and front end styling. This sedan had the look of a police car without the identifying police lettering on the side. It was a very cool looking sedan in a car repair business.

The exterior looked like old buffed up black primer or the newest craze, an “Ice” or “Frozen” sheen to the paint. On the new cars, this look is on the "extras" page, but costs a lot more than standard. At any rate, this 4 door sedan just had the “coolness” factor built in for So Cal cruising.

I don't know much about shoebox Fords, but aren't those things made out of unobtainium?

 

Remember a couple of guys had those Skyliners back in the 60’s. I thought they were pretty cool but seems they were actually pretty hot in the summer when the sun was beating down through that glass top. Would still love to have one.
