Technical Caddy engine in task force truck

Anyone put a 472 in a 57 chevy truck? I'm curious about any clearance issues.

 

I did some swaps in 1970s Chevy trucks the 472 is the same lenght as a BBC and one inch wider.https://video.search.yahoo.com/sear...=242498ed09a3c0e3ae3529e8bd28faa1&action=view

 

Watch for exhaust manifold clearance around the steering box. That was the only issue I had putting a BBC in a '59. It sounds like you will be able to move it ahead if needed for firewall clearance, but I had no problems there, and test fitted an HEI for kicks, using the stock V8 Chevy bellhousing. There should be plenty of room in the front for the fan.

 

Cadillacs had at least 3 different oil pans, front sump, mid sump and rear sump. Also watch for crossmember or tie rod clearance with the oil pump and filter. I had to put a remote filter in my 49 Buick.

 

I've got a 500 in my 71 GMC and it is a bit tight because the frame is several inches narrower than the TF frame and I had firewall clearance issues with the left valve cover and head because even with a modified pan I was tight on pan clearance with the crossmember. I don't think you will have near the problems with the TF frame.

 

so, no one has pictures of a truck with this swap? Hmmm.....

maybe I should see if I can put that 425 into the 58 GMC bus?

 

From those measurements in that diagram, the front sump bump might cause a little trouble with the front crossmember, and distributor to firewall will definitely be ok.

 

since the distributor is in front,I hope there's no firewall problem!!! LOL.sorry

 

The oil pump is outside the pan, so it probably won't be a problem, there is not a front sump bump if you get the right oil pan, afaik.

 

Oil filter and pump is on the passenger side front on a 472, not on the left side as the chart says.

Don't know if these will help, photos of my 47 Chevy sedan with a 472 Cadillac engine. It fits pretty well, had to notch the left side of the firewall for head clearance. I also used an Eldorado rear sump oil pan and pickup, for cross member clearance.

 

I am running a 472 in the 57' in my avatar. Mine has a second generation Camaro subframe. I used the front sump Eldorado pan and stock manifolds. I really can't help much with clearance issues with stock steering. Really enjoying mine. Sam

 

Not that you can see much in there, but this 55-56 had a 455 Olds which is close to caddy dimension

 

Here are some shots. Good luck. If running a stock suspension, I would recommend putting a C-10 steering box up front and steering off of the left front wheel. Kits are available for that steering upgrade.
