Yes very cool, little is right also, not sure I'd like driving one a very long distance though.

My brothers car.
While not a real "race car", it is an Anglia and has Cragar wheels..!
All Ford (302) drive train. He drove it home from Arizona (forgot town) to SoCal.
This shot is at the Hot Rod / In N Out show in Pomona.
He DOES need to swap the turn signal lights for something better though..!

67 or 68 We were 11 or 12 years old and I remember a. Eautiful orange Anglia based in a repair shop on Belmont ave. In Chicago/Elmwood Park. We used to walk to the Tastee Frrez and the shop was on a few doors away. We had to boost each other up to stare at it.i went thru every page of this thread just to see if I could spot a Chicago Anglia. Cool thread.

 

I really like the way those VW fenders look. I'd heard they can be made to work but that is the first job I've seen. I'm going to look for a set to replace the fiberglass ones I have on my current build.

 

THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER, it takes a little bit of work to make the VW fenders fit. Here's a picture of the back of a rear fender. They're all the same shape up until the mid 70's, meaning a rear fender from a really early car up through the 70's will interchange. Super Beetle fenders have a different shape but would still bolt up to an early car, you don't want Super Beetle fenders.

Thanks for the details Fat ASS Whitewalls. I would imagine a new flange and maybe trimming of the lower edge to mate the body lines is required. Anything else? At the risk of hi-jacking this thread I would like to see a unique thread on transforming the VW fenders to fit the Anglia / Pop.

 

For sure. The car in the background is a Ford Pilot, a post WW II deal that was introduced in 1947 in the UK and as can be seen was based on the US Model 48 from 1935. The other give away is the Wolfrace rear wheel on the Anglia.

Bad trip survives. Was a red with black fenders pro street car some time ago. Nice car then, nice car now.

 

If in fact those are VW fenders they have been radically reworked. The VW piece has a much bigger radius at the trailing edge of the wheel opening and the contour from the flange to the opening (in cross section) is also a lot rounder than what you see in the photo as well as being considerably narrower. The VW piece is also a lot longer (in side view) where it mounts to the body at the rear and even with a "bob" the trailing edge of the flange is going to extend way past the back of the Anglia's mounting flange area.

They are VW fenders, it still has VW taillights too. It's not the first Anglia I've seen with VW rear fenders, and yes it takes a lot of reworking to get them to fit. I had a friend in Hayward CA. that had a chopped white Anglia (street car) with VW rear fenders.

Mmmm, that's a scary wheel-tire combination (Injected 426 Ramcharger above).
Looks like about a 10" wide, stiff sidewall tire on about a 6" or 7" wide wheel.
I've never seen a tread pulled that far to make that era tire develop a rounded tread (side to side round !).

VW taillights were very usual on Anglias/ Populars here in the early U.K. Rod scene there was little else available in late 60s early 70s to use by way of a sympathetic upgrade plus they were in breakers yards and cheap to source.
The white car may have extended glassfibre back wings (fenders) specifically for Anglias which were available in the U.K. In the 70s, possibly from Jago and the VW taillights fitted neatly onto them.
