Real solid htop! Looks to be a Fenton shifter? Great that she has P/S and the electric wiper. Definitely my favorite ‘57 interior.

It was a basic wooden, stick-built single car garage. It had no insulation, a concrete floor and due to the building's lean, there was a large gap around the main door that was much like a year round open window which probably helped keep the temps balanced inside & out. It was basically a rain & sun shelter offering no other type of protection. I am just glad that it wasn't a giant, mold covered mushroom farm!!

Thanks for helping out the family. That speaks volumes on you. The car will bring miles of smiles once you have the time to work on it.
Digging through his stuff is bittersweet,I imagine. It’s a treasure hunt and at the same time sad he can’t be there.

  5. Great car and find. She deserves to be saved and loved. Congrats to you.

I recall vividly how easy it was to swing the NEW 327s into a few '57 Chevys back in '62... Courtesy Chevrolet had a flock of them, long and short blocks, very reasonable.
The cars were 5 years old, (1 year old in California years, LOL)
NO rust, paint still nice, no need to roll back carpets, just a little dust, nothing else...unless there was a 2-dr. hardtop window leak!
My bud Ramsay sold his Olds powered '40 Coupe to 'go Chevy'.
It was like it was at work...New car, pull the engine...No special members, or big fabrication job...Ready everything, clean-clean...Now, drop it in with factory mounts and 'bracketry'...
Great find, 'Vintage'...Took me back. (my '54 Ford Coupe is also rust free, but my 'location' is advantageous!)

A red '57 coupe with a 4 speed and cragars is on my "one of these days" list. Just missed out on a silver on silver 210 coupe a few years ago but it was nowhere near this nice.
Best of luck with the project.

Had some time out in the shop this morning waiting for a fellow to stop by, so thought I would snap a few pictures of what rust I have found so far.

    Thanks!

I plan to take the 350 and the winch off the 73, then what is left of it pretty much is going to be a parts donor this summer when it is nicer to work outside.

Spent a little time with her this afternoon and the engine spins free and smooth. Which was the goal for today, seeing if it spun or was frozen, so very happy.

Was not surprised there was no spark at all, so next step will be a good old-fashioned tune-up and bypass the gas tank into a can of fresh gas and see what happens...

Ordered a bunch of tune-up parts today, figured I would just start with everything new instead of trying to clean up the old stuff.

Once I get that in, next step is to see if I can get fuel flow from a can of clean gas.

But you have to remember, $100.00 in 1967 was a large amount. Some people made just that amount per week. But you could find some nice cars for $250.00.

Correct. We lived in a nice old farm house in the 60’s. 200 acres of land, barns and out buildings. Rent was $250.00 a month and in the winter it would eat up a 275 gallon tank of oil just to keep it at a livable temperature (65 degrees) if your cold, put more clothes on.

Id not have believed the repaint until the under hood shots.
    What a great condition car!
The rust around the roof supports is a bit concerning, but really minor when I look at other cars I've owned of that generation.

  23. GREAT find, now and go buy a lottery ticket.GOOD LUCK with her! Bruce.

In 67 I bought a really clean, low mile. one owner 55 2 door post for $50.00. No kidding, true, (but not running 6cyl). I found a totaled 59 vette with a 65 327 motor. Per article in Hot Rod the C-1 Corvette used the same mounts as tri 5 chevys. I did the swap in one weekend. The wrecked 59 even had headers! Great fun till it was stolen. Then I got drafted, fun over.

As I have stated in previous posts, I had a 55 210 2dr. Post with a 348 in it. Bought it in 1965 off a tow truck for $100.00 with a busted 3 spd trans.
Nice Sedan with a fresh rolled/pleated interior.
Body was solid with 2 tone mint green body and white top, although very faded and worn (original patina,I guess, didn’t know what that was in 65’ at 18 yrs old) I trashed 3 trans.in 3 months. High school ride, drafted 66’, sold in 67’ prior to RVN. While I now know it wasn’t all that great, it To was a lot of fun. Cemented my passion for old cars.

Quick update, still collecting parts needed before a real start-up attempt as budget allows. Latest addition is a new carb!
