  1. Cracked me up! Yes, hard aluminum sheets make their way into hotrodders' shops. Cardinal rule, though: No stop signs.
Good on your wife for jumping into the shop and getting her creative on.

Transported my brothers old 59' chevy apache chassis and motor from our old shop to our new one (6 hour round trip). The body and "new" chassis are still waiting to make the trip, but it's a step towards getting that project rolling again.

Also put a new battery in my 53', which got it running again. My 6 year old girl can ride to school in style again!

    Hello,
I drove over 100 miles to donate my re-edited drag racing films to fit the on going displays of the Historical Society of Long Beach’s “Legends of Lions” showcase that happened yesterday. Since I am a So Cal local and have films to showcase those hearty drag racers from 1958-64, it fit the mode of the show and discussions.

They needed 4 flash drives to fit into the monitor displays, showing various forms of drag racing:

    1. All FEDs from 1958-60

    2. Roadsters/altereds/gas coupes/sedans, etc.

    3. The total package: Entry, pits, scales, staging lanes to starting line to drag racing at Lions in 1960 & 64

    4. The films of the “Legends of Lions Drag Racing”, including SOUND versions of 1959 drag racers in action. These were the top record setting racers from back in those early days. The tribute films included ones for Joe Reath and Gary Gabelich’s personal history and legendary status.

The historic significance of hot rods and drag racing in Long Beach is well known. It was the heart of drag racing, speed shops, manufacturers, and the actual racers. The accessibility to Lions Dragstrip from 1955 to 1972 worked well for all local racers, dealers, speed shops, and parts manufacturers. Lions drew from all over So Cal.

    upload_2019-2-3_4-31-13.png
The background of the whole storefront was still in the “Chrome” display (early car clubs, drag racing, hot rod scene in Long Beach, etc.) that was put together in July of 2018 and will continue to run until March 7, 2019. This drag racing display was a good background for the “Legends” showcase.

It is interesting that the Historical Society uses this different form of public awareness to showcase what most people thought were a bunch of hoodlums racing cars down the street, wearing dirty Levis. Time has changed and history comes to light.

Thank you Historical Society of Long Beach for including my old drag racing films to display. It showed the general public, the hard work each racer/builder went through, to have a race car, in order to compete against others. Parts of the tribute films were shown here on the HAMB, last week in a “sort of” preview.

Best wishes. Bring some small stuff to work on.

I spent yesterday fixing two leaf blowers and a chain saw. When you're the neighborhood wrench everyone drags their dead small power equipment over. Dang two strokes, dang ethanol..

I made a quick mount holder for my winch. Not for very heavy lifting but it will do for my needs. No wiring, I connect the cables to the battery with jumper cables. my64-winch (1).jpg my64-winch (2).jpg my64-winch (3).jpg

Looked at a truck about 60 miles away, needed a engine but not quite good enough to be a good truck so I passed on it. Would have made a good work truck but looking for just a little nicer.

Not sure I got the cylinder and push button from eBay. The cylinder is 2 1/2 bore 1 inch ram with a 8 inch stroke. It produces 786 foot pounds of force at 175 Psi.

Not a damned thing on the hot rod projects, Shoveled some snow and tried to figure out warmer accommodations for the future shop cat who doesn't have a warm shop to hang out in yet.
Driveway is over 350 ft long but I didn't have to shovel it all this time.
You can see the cat isn't happy without a shop to hang out in and the dogs won't let him in the house. IMG_2176.JPG IMG_2170.JPG
