Projects Might have saved another one Rough convertible

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Feb 2, 2019.

  1. found this comet convertible
Guy was fixing to remove the fenders and scrap the rest. The floors are gone and rear rails are rough
Still a lot of good pieces on it that don’t need waisted
    Or a very ambitious custom/resto

Methodical replacement of structural metal doesn't take a lot of bodyworking skills. Just planning and lots of measuring (and some decent welding skills/equipment). You can do it!

Good save, not much risk in giving it a go.

  8. A one piece floor is abalible.
The bones of this one seem good
The bulk of the fab would be the trunk weather strip area
These are supposed to share many parts with falcons
Or memove what’s left of the floor and build a tube chassis and sheet metal floor and tubs for a go fast car.
    Drag or road race style.
    Hmmmmmmm

  10. It is. This is the worst side. It has some bad filler work in this QTR. the blue interior is nice. Bucket seats and console. The owner was not there this morning but he told me it’s ok to come by and take pics. It comes with s decent parts car. I think this would be a quick driver Going to stop and check it out more when we pick up the convertible.

Don't you dare "sacrifice" this HT for a parts car! Gotta be another way.
You found these in Alabammma?! Nice.

  13. No. The parts car is missing several interior pieces. The sheet metal is there. The HT would have to find another home as well.

  14. Not looking for more projects. I got plenty but sometimes ya can’t walk away. If my youngest son likes it we may build it If not I will find it a home.

What are his prices like??? Fair??
    reasonable"" pie in the sky???

  16. Reasonable. I gave a low price on the conv and he took it. The S22 took some time but I think it can be bought reasonably. These are the outside cars. The ones on the inside are super nice

Did you say two door wagon? Can't remember the Last time I saw one! Whatever you don't buy, you should help him sell before they are too far gone, just a thought. Yes, some parts are shared with like year/style Falcons.

  18. He knows the wagon is rare
Someone tried to go gasser style on it
Jacked up front ( not straight axle) and a 5 lug rear with some crude radiused rear wheel wells
Needs floor work. Wants 4K for the it
I think that one is high.

  19. The wagon is in background on the S22 picture
The 54 Merc is not for sale

  20. The S22 is the one I would prefer to get
    It just screames mild custom.
The plans are to go back and put a battery on it and then check out the floor from underneath
If I sell my 67, we may work a deal. This little comet would make a nice work car The parts car would definitely find a new home once I make sure there is nothing I may need.

Good on you for scooping up the convertible. Not as many made and even fewer now as most rotted away. Love the oddball cars.

  22. On a side note. I had a guy ask me how I find all these old cars and parts.
    The secret is simple
When you drive your old car you meet people with old cars and parts
    Shhhhhhhhhhh
    Don’t tell anyone

Those S22's are nice cars, and fairly rare also. It would make a nice companion to my S55. A friend found one here about 35 years ago, we took it back to Ohio with us and another friend bought it and put a 302/C4 in it, a really nice car it was then.

  26. Could be.
I didn’t pay much attention to it cause it was not for sale.
Kinda odd since it’s in worse shape than the comets.

  27. Guy had several 61/66 ford parts trucks
I have him almost talked out of an extra hood he has
He made a great deal on a swb truck for a friend of mine

There is one post hamb car there that is interesting. An XL ford Fastback
Has a stripe along the bottom and bucket seats and console

I always admire the skills, dedication on this type of project, I read your profile and your going into teaching these skills is greatly respected and needed IMO. I could be wrong in my thinking that a skilled tradesman will be a highly needed commodity in future. Supply/Demand = Opportunities. Good for You !

  29. I was asked about how many of my students will actually do the things we do in class as a profession
My answer was not many They asked why I taught this way
    1. The more tools I put in a students hand the more familiar they are with them.
    2. The more challenges we tackle the more confident they become
    3. If I treat class like work the better suited for a work environment they become
It’s not about a student becoming a body tech or painter. It’s about a student becoming a confident employee that is capable of several career opportunities
I asked a plant manager this question If my students can be part of a team that cuts a bus in half, updates the chassis builds the engine and trans and brakes do you think they can handle a job as a team member in your factory?

I have been lucky enough to help guide a few that have become skilled craftsmen in the collision industry though

Just getting a teenager's mind to concentrate on any one subject today has to be hard. I was a teenager once, and I had a heckuva time concentrating sometimes, and we didn't have the distractions then that are present now. "Now we're going to ....Oh look, a shiny thing over there!"
