Anyone know where I can get a 32 Ford grill with horizontal bars vs the vertical ones in a stock grill? Thanks
To be different. My uncle had a custom 32 grill with horizontal bars on a chopped and channeled 34 Ford 5 window when I was a kid. Going to construct a clone of his car. That was a distinction of his 34's, they all wore 32 rad shells.
I remember the late 50's ,early 60's show rods with horizontal inserts. I didn't care for them then and as I have matured my taste hasn't changed. With that said,,there is a certain air of traditionalism associated with that type of grill treatment but I'm fairly certain 99% of the Deuce guys probably don't want them on their cars. I submit this shot for something different,,I am in no means criticizing this car ,which is not a Deuce,,it's just not my style. HRP
Good for you!! Honoring your uncle!! Don't know of any, sounds like a custom piece for sure!! Hope you find one!! Pete
Make your own ? I doubt that anyone makes one. Never seen an over the counter one. Done right they can look good. I have considered doing hoizontal bars. Go for it ! And post pics please.
Go for it. After all that's what this group is supposed to be about, recreating history the traditional way!
Real easy to make, just takes a little time. Years ago I had a 34 Chevy coupe I made a new grill insert out of 1/8" steel rods( vertical), every one used to ask why I put a Ford grill on my Chevy.
A fellow member posted this a few years back, not exactly what your looking for but the technique of making a insert using horizontal bars can be applied to what your are trying to accomplish. HRP I used 3/8 SS rod for the frame and 5/32 rod for the bars. Made a jig for spacing.
I had a buddy that made a grill years ago out of what they call music wire. He bought it at the local hardware store, Im thinking it was mild steel so a guy would have to paint it.
I made a grille with 3/8 rod fitted to shell and used welding rod for the bars. I set it on a wooden buck that held the cross supports in place. I used 16 penny nails as spacers. That was 20 plus years ago and it still looks good.
If I'm remembering right there was a horz grill in the "Big Deuce", kinda think it was a Barris made piece.
Try Alumicraft in Houston 814.742.7405. He's a good guy and he would probably make a custom for you. It won't be cheap. I got one from him for a '32 Chevy. Good stuff.
Who cares why? It's his car and he can build it as he sees fit. I don't understand why some guys feel the need to lay their negative thoughts on someone else's build.
Raidmagic Your right on the money with your comment, Let the guy build it the way he wants. If the people on the Hamb saw my Hot- Rod they would HATE IT. But so it goes. Love and Peace!!!!!! Don in Rain socked Indiana
There's a picture thread on the HAMB about '32 grill inserts: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/show-me-your-32-grill-inserts.235742/
Edelbrock's Roadster Magoo Vicky Contact the guy’s at Pinhead fabrication I'm sure they can help you out. http://www.pinheadfabrication.com/
X2!! Never understood the attitudes about someone building their car the way they want!! If we follow the same build for all cars then they are all the same!! Pete
Can't see the negativity or attitude you are talking about ! A guy says " don't take this wrong " surely that tells you that he is not trying to offend ? Gypsy replied to the query and gave 2 good answers. This whole, let him build it the way he wants...is fine, but let's not forget where we are. Traditionalists will always question, challenge, and query what people post on this forum, don't complain about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no need to argue about it. Personally, I haven't seen any modifications to a 32 grille, that have been an improvement on the original.
