I would take this idea one step further, and use steel tube the same dimensions as the framing wood used on a woodie and then "wood grain" it to look exactly like wood! Then cabinet grade plywood could be attached inside of this framework.

I think it looks extra slick with the extra tall roof! Especially with so many hot rods with chopped tops being the norm nowadays.

  10. I like the high roof on the red car too. I’d like to see more of it or a build thread if it’s out there.

I don't think woodies are well suited to chopped roofs. All of the chopped woodies that I've ever seen just haven't looked right to me. The roof chop detracted from those cars, rather than enhancing them.

im not a fan of roof chops especially when it makes lovely cars impractical, but a couple of inchs out of the red A it could be as pretty as this.[IMG]

Mikes car is built from a '22 Dodge fordor, it has '29 Ford fenders

He is an illustrator and has accurate plans how he built it years ago.

Lives in Huntington Beach, and just a heck of a nice guy.[IMG]

  19. Not mine. Talked to the owner, said he always wanted a 32 but out of his price range. Bought some 'glass fenders and got busy. The flathead engine is made of wood too (covering a SBC) Had 20,000 hours in the build.

    ^^^^^^^^Amazing workmanship !
Although, At 20,000 hours, he could have charged his time out at $1 per hour and bought a Brookville.
I guess that how a lot of these things start out, same as building any hot rod, thinking it is cheaper to build one........

I did a few repaire to the woodwork on a 40/41 ford.was nt too impressed with the pass doors .hinges too close together to control the pass doors.if I built one it would be a 2 door wagon for that reason

  26. Hey logride - is that Chevy the one those Boy Scouts built back in the '70's that had some pics @ the Nats in Street Rodder magazine?? It sure looks like it - wonder what happened to that one???
