We never know what will show up...this is a kind of strange event. But there are usually a few traditional cars, of some kind or another. I took a few pics. I also got lucky and they drew my name for the F vs F&F race (again). I had the Chevy II there, so...yeah, I won again. It was fun. Saw Nick Flores and a couple other guys.

If you ever watch the show they cobble stuff together with zip ties, ratchet straps, etc.

I'm going to expose my ignorance here (once again) but what is an F vs F &F race? I know nothing about drag racing. Thanks.

  7. Probably refers to Jim Forbes verses the Roadkill Hosts, David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan. HRP

Now I suppose we will be subjected to watching those clowns just to see Jim beat them on a show. I can suffer though one show to see that though.

oh, it won't be on their show. I think there might be video somewheres on the internet, but it's probably mostly off topic here.

but it was fun beating the field with my antiquated crap :) there were several turbo and nitrous cars in the mix.

The first F stands for Fans. They have anyone who wants to, put their name on a slip of paper into a bucket, and then they draw 10 names. Those are the Fans who get to race. The hosts usually lose in the first or second round, because the cars they have from the show are crap. So the Fans get to race each other to find the winner.

I watched some very impressive runs by Squirrel.

A fun, "run-what-you-brung" event. I had most of my kids, a couple of their spouses and 3 granddaughters there. We ran 3 vehicles (3 drivers) and almost everybody got to sit in a passenger seat. We put the 10 year old in a helmet, but she got pulled out of the passenger seat at the starting line.

The 1962 semi-custom Volvo and the very OT pickup (support vehicle in case we had to UHaul something home) ran both days. My somewhat OT truck (1952 Bell Telephone service bed) failed another <sigh> hydraulic clutch release cylinder. I managed to drip my way home...

I saw one of the Volvo runs, from the front of the staging lanes. Looks like the kids were having fun!

Congrats on making some great runs, coverage on the Hot Rod site - lots of people here are likely wondering where the snow is

heh...funny you should mention that. This is a pic that someone at the strip posted on Jan 2, when we got a snowstorm down here. Of course it all melted quickly...but still.....

  21. I was stationed in Laredo AFB, TX back in the early 70s, and one winter there was a dusting of snow. There were cars piled like chordwood, all the schools were closed, and they opened emergency shelters.

I went up to Tucson yesterday in my wife's OT sporty car. I put the top down for the drive home...but I did have my sweatshirt on, since it was only in the 60s for part of the drive.

better hurry, you never know when these events will go away. They had the ZTDs at a few other locations in past years, but no longer....

When I arrived at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Ga from Ft. Ord, CA in February 1971 I was wearing winter class A's and it was in the '80's. 2 weeks later it snowed less than 1/2 inch and they closed the post. Go figure.
