Anyone got the exterior dimensions of the V8-60 vs the "regular" flathead??? You know...Height, Width, Length???
I'm pulling together parts for a nostalgia t roadster and want to use a V8 60 with a 3-speed top-loader and a stock model A rear end. I've had two guys tell me the 60 doesn't have enough torque. Anybody our there running a 60 whose had trouble with it?
I used to run a 60.... About the best you can hope for on gas is 125 hp. (very expensive hp) In a 1250 lb roadster, you can scoot around fairly quick and look cool.
Hopefully this will see the water sometime soon. I dont think Its been wet since before I was born... ROB
Here's my '37 V8-60. Eddie Meyers intake, Offenhauser heads. You can see the tin sides in one pic. I bought it because it was fun to look at, no home for it right now, but I have a T or an A that it might be fun in. The trans with it is the small V8-60 unit.
This was sitting in tech at Bonneville in a 40/50's sprint car. The center exhaust was split and came out the regular place in the block and also on the top. The thing that puzzled me was that the top pipe was made of "Copper". There was another sprint car with an 8BA that also had "copper" exhaust pipes........................why????????????
Hello , intresting topic indeed! Does enyone have not leaking waterpumps for that little bugger?? Mine leaks like hell and allso cranksaft front seal is spraying oil = MESS! I just got it running and test drive it a littlebit.... Sneak peek to snowy yard... Car didn´t climb up the hill sut seems to be working otherwise ok , backtires just didn´t have a nough grip and i tryed to install ATV´s chains on it but (luckily?) they are too short....
i have the chance to pick up a v8,60,fully rebuilt, with edmunds duel carb intake, edelbrock vintage block letter heads, holley 97's,ready to run.been looking for a flathead for a roadster or coupe project,is this engine a good choice.
No, not really. In my opinion, there's really only three markets for a V8-60: 1) - Restored stocker 2) - Midget Racer / Crackerboat (or some variants) 3) - Transplant for smaller cars or oddball fits (early English Fords, etc) They're very heavy for what you get, don't make much power, and you'd be time and money ahead just to get a regular flathead - even for a light weight roadster.
60 parts are out there. Just have to know who to ask. Like getting my hands on this NOS 40 Service Block was score
If you are ever at Vern Tardels, there are at least 3 Model "T" Roadster Pick-Ups with V8-60s in them, & yes, they look like "factory" in that the scale of car to motor is about as "perfect" as could be desired!!
My contribution the Ford V-8 60 tread. Is a 1939 Worlds Fair display cutaway of a 1940 Ford 60 and column shift trans. Keep this tread going.
