The number of cars that stayed the same back in the day were few and far between. owners were always swapping engines, trans, rears, etc. So, thirty years from now these changes too will be part of history, so, don't sweat the petty thangs.

Sounds like he should sell/trade it for another car with no history and dance with it as he wants.

These aren't the best but here are a couple of pictures from this summer of the Henry J.

  7. So, is it being brought back the RIGHT way? I personally have lusted after that car from one of my dads HRMs for close to 40 years. It is a kick in the gut to hear that anything but a decent resto will be done to it.

I haven't seen it in a while but I believe Chuck has installed a SBC with a Muncie 4-Speed. The problem is he only has so much $ and that's the bottom line. I would like to see it put back together like it was with some sort of a Mopar motor & Trans, at minimum a BBC but it's not my car. Alex is only doing what the customer (Chuck) wants.

With that being said, I think the car is still in decent hands.

I heard rumor that it was sold? Does Chuck still own it? Is Alex still working on it?

i appreciate the kudos and i'm sure Alex does too. we don't talk anymore, and as such i'm not privvy to the status of the clutch-flite. perhaps Bobwop could inquire about it on your behalf.

I am cordial with Chuck, it is just that I have not crossed paths with him. I believe it was early summer 2010, around Scrap Drive time, that I saw him last.

I just spoke with a friend and Chuck still has the car. It's just tack welded together and from what I understand Alex will be finishing the welds sometime. If I get a chance I will talk to Alex and find out exactly what the plan is.

Dan, I hope I am not rubbing you wrong....I still think the progress of this car is very cool and should be updated every once in a while. PM me if you want.

I grew up in a 57 Ford wagon. That one you've got is pretty freaky. Luv it.

Followed this thread to it's unfortunate turn. It was coming along very nicely, think of it as practice for your next project. (Best advice I ever got was don't have a partner...)

I was at Alex's shop Wednesday and helped him & Chuck for a couple of hours on the Henry J. Alex was setting the brackets for the rearend so it could go back to Clinton and get set in a jig to get fully welded. Chuck and I were cleaning the frame and applying POR 15. Alex has a couple more things to weld on the frame and it will be done. When the rearend comes back he is going to get the rolling chassis together then set the body on. After that he can start doing the final welds on the body.

Here are some pictures from the other day. Kurt

Alex and I worked on the Henry J yesterday and today. Alex bolted on the front suspension. When I got there we worked on the rear, tack welding the front brackets for the ladder bars. After some adjustments we have them about where they should be. Here are some pics.
