How do you talk your wife into helping strip the paint off the roof of your Suburban?
Tell her she gets to pick the color.

Well, I’m here at any rate. Just gnawed through 3506 post over the last few days. Hope to nab a project this fall/winter. Had a 61 Apache for a short period of time a couple years ago but sadly had to turn it loose at the time. At least I saved it from doom. Guy I worked with had it on the side of his house. Happened to hear him tell another guy he was having a scrapper pick it up that weekend. Told him I’d give him scrap value so picked it up for two or three bills. Ended up selling it to the neighbors nephew. He just turned 16 and was stoked. At least it went to a good home and not China.

How about a 66 Suburban project?
Not cheap but all the heavy lifting is done.

  23. 6D6F5C2C-DCE5-411A-A1FE-BC5FA951E196.jpeg Here is mine. Could not as for a better truck, 283 auto. Go anywhere using as a daily driver pulling the boat, or hauling wood.

My 66 Suburban was an original 283/pg truck, was a chore to drive, I bet pulling any kind of a load would have been painful.
I put a hot 350/turbo 350 in it, now that is a perfect combo.

  26. Picked up some power with 327/350 hp cam and 305 heads. But always want more.
Planning on going bigger, know of a guy that has a few 409s laying around and trying to see what he wants to get rid of. Power brakes and discs helped a lot. Still have manual steering, fun at boat ramp.

  29. Hmm...seems I forgot about this thread so thanks for the bump. We have a few of these trucks sitting around lately including a longbed that is my beater and a 63 swb that we are building for my oldest son to be his daily driver. Plans for his are for a pretty traditional build with a sbc, standard, and as much static drop as possible. He also wants to keep with a 60's theme so it may likely end up with a panel paint job and chrome OE style wheels. Speaking of...anyone know something I don't about finding 6-lug chrome OE wheels...I can't find any. So far, we have pulled the bed, lowered the rear, took the motor apart and got it to the machine shop and collected several parts. Also picked up a 60 for parts not long ago. Driving photo credit goes to Travis Royboy Scanlan.
