Too busy...finally "only" doing regular life now. Got our oldest married just before Christmas (with 5 weeks notice), so been pretty crazy in these parts the last little while. LOL
Copied this from FB. Kool that Oz Welch is redoing the Bad Apple. Can’t wait to see this one finished. Oz is about to whack the roof off of the beautiful Bad Apple Merc. He said the Merc drew first blood but it's on now. The Man has a vision in his head and won't stop till it's been achieved. I have no doubts it will be nothing short of Flawless with it's new top in place. . Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
So he took the top from Bad Apple and put it on an different car and then put a new top on Bad Apple? Seems odd.
I was shocked when Oz ran the ad on FB. He sold the top off Bad Apple and would weld it on another Merc for $$$. I can’t remember the price but it was reasonable offer. Looks like he wanted more of a chop than what was on it. Like Jeff “HOF” Myers says, it’s only metal cut it up! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I guess for the guy buying it it was probably cheaper than paying for a fresh chop. LOL still seems mental to me. Love Oz's work.
I wonder what the story is with the Merc in the background with the Buick headlights. It has been in the back ground of pictures from Oz's shop for at least 10 year and it never seems to change.
Joe Fig owned a Bailon built Merc before this one, not sure if Mr. Bailon had a hand in this one though. Mick
After some checking, it appears that the body work on Figueroa's Merc was done by one Joe Cota, who had worked for Gil Ayala in the Fifties. And, yes, the grille was indeed the work of Joe Bailon. https://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11...a-built-cust/51_mercury/1951-merc-custom.html Figueroa's Bailon-built Merc...
