was given this yesterday, it is brand new. the plastic plate on the inside tells me what it is for, but the question is why and how was it needed?
Mercruiser 86246 Fuel Pump with Sight Glass 47816 Fuel Pump part number: 86246 Sight glass part number: 47816 This fuel pump set up was used on some GM 305/350 from 1977-1982.
ahhh thanks. I guess it still vents into the engine? the bowl would catch a leak and allow you time to get back to shore, without a dangerous leak. kinda cool, what d I do with it?
dual diaphragm pump, that goes on the vacuum pump side. If you see gas in there there's a bad diaphragm in the pump.
What d I do with it?[/QUOTE] Get a GF 124 AC filter, take out the discharge plug, & use as a fuel filter
I was hoping it could be turned into a filter. it makes sense that they would make it out of "old" already available castings.
these were very popular in the 40'/50's/60's came as standard equipment on many cars and many trucks.,tractors etc, they give you a first hand clue as to dirt etc in your fuel system. part of a tune up included removing the bowl and clean out the crud.
Marine application, mechanical fuel pumps in boats don't have the vent hole on the top side of the diaphragm. Any leakage through the diaphragm is caught in this housing on this type, the other type has a fitting and tubing which routes any leakage to the carburetor (shown). Gas fumes in an enclosed boat engine compartment are a bad deal.
